Tanchjim in ear monitors Impressions Thread

I got mine with a mic, so I could use it for video meetings at work. Totally acceptable mic performance. I would guess that the mic cable is more prone to failure compared to the one without the mic, I've had cheap hard wired IEM sets with mics fail on the side with the microphone twice over the years. However as redrol noted, they're incredibly cheap, so if they crap out it's not that big of a deal.

Plus the addition of like 10 sets of the filters is really nice too. I have been experimenting putting the Tanya filters on a couple of my sets.

Apparently the 10 set filter provided in the Tanya packaging is the same as that used in the Tanchjim Oxygen. Had a friend who measured them on graphs and he says they measure the same.

FWIW the filters possibly may be the ones also used to convert the old Hana (which was shouty in the upper mids) to the new 2021 Hana which has tamer upper mids. Those filters seem to be Tanchjim's secret tuning recipe haha.

Cool, that's great to know actually. I bought my Oxygen used and it didn't come with replacement filters, so I'm glad to hear I can use them as replacements for my Oxygen.

No impressions yet, but New (2021) Hana came in and I've got it measured.

And here's how it compares to the Oxygen I heard a couple months ago.

Original looks better to me. That sub bass climb is going to hurt the lower midrange. Also looks like the upper mid peak gets smoothed over too much in comparison to lower treble, though this is more minimal. I might be in the market for the old Hana. If anyone is interested in selling or trading feel free to message me (CONUS sellers only please). I am a little wary of the upper treble spike, which is what most people are likely hearing when calling the Hana bright despite claiming to be bothered by the lower treble specifically.

On second thought I'll probably wait on purchasing the Hana, Tanchjim seems to be cranking out decent IEMs and I'm waiting for them to get one with a more even mid-upper treble. Still, I got a couple listings open if anyone wants to trade.

Just got the Tanyas a couple of hours ago, doing a bit of listening while working. Super early, super quick first impressions:
- This packaging is NUTS for such a cheap pair of IEMs!
- Comfort seems superb, these genuinely disappear in my ears. Could definitely see myself wearing these all day without any issues.
- Music sounds a wee bit muffled to me, with a bit of like... graininess to some notes, but it's not bad at all, overall it's pleasant enough and pretty easy to listen
- Imaging seems a bit bizarre at a quick check, but this isn't something I particularly care about so it doesn't matter to me that much
- The bass is AMAZING for such tiny IEMs, mid bass has real impact and I'm enjoying the bass texture a lot. Andy Stott's Violence, for example, sounds superb with these.
- Isolation is pretty mediocre

All in all, I'm very happy with what I got, considering these cost me less than 20 euros. The insane comfort, mediocre isolation and punchy bass should make these perfect for everyday computer use - games, Youtube videos, etc. should sound nice and warm, I can most likely wear these from morning to evening with zero issues and I'll still be able to hear the GF talk through these, too. Excited to try a bit of tip rolling after work.

If you find the sound a bit veiled, try some aftermarket wider bore eartips.

What source are you using with it btw? Tanya sounds muffled and meh with lower powered gear, but scales a lot when amped.

iPhone 11 Pro with the dongle at first, but I quickly switched to my iFi Black Label. It does sound much better on the BL for sure. I'll have to see if I have any wider bore eartips around.

As a side note, thank god the Tanyas aren't very sensitive. Spotify on iPhone did something pretty goddamn scary - I had plugged the IEMs in, had them in my ears and when I opened the Spotify app, it suddenly raised the iPhone's volume to 100% and immediately started playing some song that I had most likely been listening to on my desktop Spotify client last night. I'm guessing it's a bug with how the service syncs playback/volume/etc. between clients.

Garbage app, I hate it so much lol. That f**king bug could have done irreversible damage to my hearing if I had used any other IEMs I have lying around - the Tanyas were LOUD at 100% volume, but nothing insane. I should really look into switching to Apple Music or something.

edit: I suppose there's a chance this damaged the IEMs, though?

Dude no joke, a lot of devices ramp up the volume right when you plug in regardless of what your volume setting was last time. It's hella annoying.

Yeah, it sucks and has definitely led to some potentially irrational fears on my part wrt digital volume adjustments. I can at least alleviate this on PC since the BL has a physical volume knob and tiny little switches for super low gain settings (although those switches are a bit flimsy and it's ridiculous how easy it is to switch to a higher gain/turn off IEMatch by mistake, but that's a separate issue lol) so I can keep everything at 100% on the software side and won't have to be afraid of some crappy bug suddenly raising the volume super high, but no such luck on an iPhone, obviously.

edit: since I happened to have the Fiio FH3s on my desk I thought I'd switch their tips (stock ones that came with the FH3s) to the Tanyas out of curiosity and wow, that's a pretty major effect on the sound. Really reduced the graininess I mentioned to zero. Mid bass got a slight boost too and yeah, it's definitely a bit much in some songs, but holy s**t is it euphoric with electronic now.

edit 2: yeah, this won't mean that much since I only have two other IEMs and I don't like either of them that much, but these are easily my favorites of the ones I currently have with the FH3 tips. These sound extremely pleasant, and man, that bass is so tasty. Shame they lose some of that OOMPH when used with the iPhone since otherwise these would be perfect IEMs for when I go outside, but maybe the Qudelix 5k will fix that... Assuming Amazon actually ships that one of these days.

Tanchjim Oxygen just arrived. Out of box impressions are that these are a S rank.

Pretty impressed!

Ranks have a high tendency to deflate over time and with extended listening though, so keep that in mind.

The whole frequency response has great resolution. Separation and sense of clarity is very much perceived by my ears out of the box too. Bass is ample on tracks I trust to have bass mastered in large quantities. Very balanced overall with that bass boost just a tad over what I’ve heard from other gear I like.

I’m really liking these far! An impressions video is sure to come on my channel soon, if not a full review with a sound demo within a month or so (I have so much already promised to upload and share so we’ll see how quick that demo/review comes lol).
