Takstar HF 580 Planar Headphones

reading back through this thread... how on earth are people describing this headphone as bright? it makes my hd650 sound bright.

I love the dark, warm presentation. I can wear them all day, they never get tiring.

Just look at my FR plot on the previos page, it depends on what you mean by bright. This headphone has a non-warm mid range and quite a bit of high treble energy so that may be what some people refer to.
I wouldn't describe it personally as "dark" though (not in the same way i thought the hd700 sounded) but they do deliver a very polite treble that isn't fatiguing. Ever.
Compared to my hd590s they are in every way less bright

Yeah, good description. They are detailed. Bass is warm, mids neutral if a little recessed

Now wait just a minute, you describe the mids of the hf580 as recessed???
Yeah, they sound slightly hollow and with stock pads nasal. Compared with the 650s which sound like syrup in the mids. I think I am talking upper mids or the female vocal range.

I guess everone has their own definition on what parts of the spectra are bass, mids and highs

That is one definiton. I usually try to keep with: 20-200Hz is bass, 200-2000hz is mid range and 2000-20000Hz is treble.
Then also 2x-5x hz is the low of a section (for example 200hz to 500hz is the low midrange), 5x-10x hz is the mid subpart and 10x-20x hz is the high subpart.
I use this definition to keep it simple, however are the value-laden words (such as "warmth") in my opinion a much more accurate description.

Also, the true sensation of the sound is even more difficult. I usually hear a bassy headphone by comparing the bass to the lower treble (maybe because of the step response) and that is maybe why I deem the HF580 as more bassy than my okcsc zx-1 even though the zx-1 has a large bass hump compared to the (in my plots) recessed bass of the HF580.

This is an English site, but I ran that through a translator: HE-400i 2020 Edition.

Why is hi fi man better?
They've just refined the sound with the updated version. The HF-580 needs modding to really shine, but from what I understand of its technical performance and sound signature when you do fix things up, you're getting the same thing out of the HE-400i 2020 edition plus a little spice in the treble.

The HE-400i 2020 or the 6XX are the way to go in this price range: one is a good budget planar, the other is the king of timbre and vocals. Audio Technica ATH-R70X is also worth a look if you want something that tries to do it all.

A good example is original vs modified. They measure "very" different. Signal is much stronger that it measures higher even it's cleaner and sophisticated. It just microphone think, I think. It's good headphone but without mods it's almost like others around. With mods it put to shame more expensive headphones.
