Takstar HF 580 Planar Headphones

Have you had a chance to order the Aiva v2 pads via the new links? Might help you take your tuning further.
I'm holding my orders atm. China is slow and some of the EU countries too.

I tried EQ frequency response to harman curve and I did not like much :frowning2: Bass was weak and very attacking treble. I think it's good when it's kind of there but still not perfect match. Or it may be headphones are already quite there but showing a bit off track at the measurements.

No real discounts offered with the HF-580 beyond what's already here, so it comes to $157 with the Head-fi code, but only if you live in a region where you're not taxed for the imported good. Other AliExpress codes don't stack with the supplied code either, but I've asked to see if the $25 discount can be applied by the seller on the order instead, which would then take this to $142.

For everyone else, discount codes are applied after any taxes and import costs that are calculated at check out, so the effective value of the discount is reduced. I could have sworn they weren't, but that seems to be what's happening.

157$ for HF580 sounds like a killer bargain!

Aliexpress doesn't calculate any taxes/customs (Amazon does). You can ask the seller to mark the package with lower value under your country's customs limit - this will decrease the chance of being charged extra taxes/customs..

There is no minimum amount in Australia, and even for an international seller, they are required by law to claim it for the government at point of sale.

In my case, because coupons aren't stacking with the promo code, it's more like this:

($200 x 1.1) - $18 - $25 = $177

With tax applied at the end, it would be:

($200 - $18 - $25) x 1.1 = $172.70

Which in of itself is not particularly awful, but it is annoying and questionable. With the $25 discount baked into the price instead, it would be:

($200-$25) x 1.1 - $12 - $15 = $165.50

And that is frustrating.

So basically what it cost when it was first released

Bit the bullet and ordered the Takstar. Very good customer service with fast response.

I wonder if I will need mods. But I guess sheepskin cups are better anyway. The Monoprice are the best right? I don't mind the taping.

Cheers.

Or if you want the AliE pricing/service: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000714597987.html
Or if you're in the US or Canada: https://shop.musicteck.com/collecti.../sendyaudio-aiva-headphone-replaceable-earpad

Perforated Aiva pads are well regarded and pretty much designed for the driver (albeit in a wooden enclosure). Monoprice are the backups.

If you like the signature with the Aiva pads, the rest of the tuning would likely be enclosure resonance, for which I've seen suggested to just buy a cheap memory foam pillow and cut out pieces to surround the edges of the driver.

I also have the SIVGA 006, a BossHifi B8/Denon clone and need new cups for them, too. Are those wooden cups all the same size? Like the SIVGA P-ll? Thanks.

I'm not sure, but eyeballing it, I would say they're too small. You might be able to find the enclosure part on Alibaba or Taobao, or get a similar DIY kit, but honestly I'd just stick with the pads and then pad around the driver down the line.

If there is a headphone that needs pad rolling less than Pro 82, I haven't seen it yet
I pad rolled my Staxs and Fostex TH900MK2, but the very idea of using Pro 82 with non-original pads turns my stomach.

If you will buy Pro 82, don't forget to use a 4-6$ discount code in the first post of the Pro 82 thread - https://www.head-fi.org/threads/tak...iew-impressions-and-discussion-thread.849965/
There is also a 25$ discount code for HF580.

@BenF how do you compare the TH900 with thr takstar HF580? I have the massdrop TH-X00 and I'm curious how the HF580 compares..

I don't have HF580 - in the last few years, I switched from planar to electrostatics (Stax 009/700/300LE/300) when it comes to open headphones.
Don't see the point in buying a 200$ planar (even if it sounds like 400-500$ as some people say), when I have much higher tier available.
Stax 009 and Pro 82 occupy 100% of my non-IEM listening time, with Pro 82 getting most of it.

If you want a comparison between the X00 and HF580, I can help there, but I don't own a TH900 if that's the comparison you are ultimately looking for.

Yes, @theangelboy, would you please share how you compare X00 and HF580. I was asking for comparison with TH900 as a proxy to X00's sound.
