System for techno & ambient house for 2000 CAD

Techno has a pretty large range. When I think techno, I think Neil Landstrumm, Cari Lekebusch, Thomas P. Heckmann, Dave Clarke, etc.

The good news is that you don't necessarily need to spend 2200 CAD. Also, yes, some of the world's top clubs have incredible sound systems.

To get the visceral impact that these system produce you will need a unique rig.

For an audiocard (DAC / Amp) I'd recommend JDSlabs The Element https://www.jdslabs.com/products/151/the-element/ or OBJECTIVE2+ODAC REV B https://www.jdslabs.com/products/48/objective2-odac-combo-revb/ - approx $350 - 400 CAD

As @monsterzero has recommended, you absolutely need to look into the Taction Kannon. They will be updating their website soon, and they are just in the process of get their assembly line up to speed. But it will be worth the wait.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2053327139/kannon-headphones-accurate-bass-you-can-feel $615 CAD + shipping + taxes.. so probably around $680 CAD

Already, some the head-fi members who have a ton of experience in headphone and car audio bass reproduction have attested that these are pretty much the best for producing impactful, deep, and physical bass sensations without interfering with the rest of the sound spectrum. This is because it uses a separate haptic driver for bass reproduction.

You actually may only need the Kannon.

Here is an alternative setup, but one you may want to get along with the Kannon.

Sennheiser HD650 - this is a open-back headphone staple, and has a very neutral yet warm sound. It is very dynamic, and you can turn it up with sharpness. It has a warm, emotional, room sound. approx. $300 CDN look for a used pair or buy new for around $400 CAD

+ combine with

a Sub-pac. This is not a gimmick, and is another way for you to get the tactile feel that you would get at the club, without the ridiculous sound pressure and ear damaging levels (providing you aren't blasting your headphones too high).

http://subpac.com/ approximately $300 with shipping

You could get all of the above just under your budget.

I'm not in a hurry but I wouldn't wait months & months unless it was really worth it.

Unless the system doesn't make more noise than a quiet whisper, I wouldn't be able to use that decently; my living arrangement is so that a roommate that has trouble sleeping wake up early, so most days I wouldn't be able to use it for many hours a day.

Alright, instead of the HD650, you'll need a pair of closed-headphones to go with that sub-pac.

They will also need to seal pretty well so that they don't leak.

Regarding the Taction Kannon, it may not be worth the wait then.

So in order of importance:

1) Get a DAC/Amp - JDS Labs O2/ODAC

2) Closed headphone. Choice of either:
Beyerdynamic DT1770
Mr. Speakers Aeon https://www.mrspeakers.com/shop/headphones/closed/aeon.html https://www.head-fi.org/threads/aeon-mrspeakers-new-closed-back-planar-magnetic-headphone.833820/
Shure SRH1540
Meze Neo https://headphonebar.com/products/meze-99-neo

3) Optional: Sub-Pac - get this later, perhaps you'll be happy with the above. You may not need to 'feel' the bass.

Oh if open headphones will make more noise than a quiet whisper and open is more than--negligibly--better than closed, I'll just listen to my headphone club session during hours where my roommate isn't sleeping, I much prefer sound that sound like a club than listening for more hours during the day.

I'm assuming it's only slightly better and will take a while.

I'm sorry if it take you a while to rework your suggestions, if it does we may want to work out other things 1st.
