Survey: What has your headphone listening cost you (on an hourly basis) since first exposure to Head-Fi / Headwize?

Calculated as follows:

A. Period. Number of elapsed weeks since first exposure to Head-Fi / Headwize

B. Listening Time. Estimated total listening time in hours since first exposure to Head-Fi / Headwize

C. Net Cost. Total amount spent on on headphones, other audio components and music, less any sales during the period (in US$)

From this you can calculate:
1. Average Listening Time per Week (B/A)
2. Average Cost per Listening Hour (C/B)
3. Average Cost per Week (C/A)

Be very interesting to compare peoples different experiences.

And, if we multiply the average Cost per Week by the number of Head-Fi / Headwize members, we can estimate the size of the industry generated by these sites.

Of course it goes without saying that it is all worth it - provided one's spouse does not find out.

It's an interesting idea, Nicwix.......however, I'm a firm believer in the old adage "Ignorance is bliss." I really don't want to know how much this insanity has cost me so far.

Okay, then I'll go first.

About $50/week spent, I listen about 10-15 hours per week (by my estimation), so I spend between $3 and $5 per hour of listening.

I don't know, but mine's probably pretty low, because I spend a lot of time in headphones...

Since coming here, I've spent about $120 for headphones I actually currently own, and perhaps another $35 on parts for my headphone amp. That's $155. I've been registered for about 2.5 months and have had my first good headphones for about 1.5 months. I listen to them for probably a good 40 hours a week since I listen while I study, play games, and walk around campus. So that's, what, $0.60 per hour? Not bad.

However, I have a new purchase on the way, and I'm going to have to get new media, and a new amp, and an amp power supply, and batteries, etc . .. .

A. Period. Say 40 weeks

B. Listening Time. Only about 5 hours per week on average

C. Net Cost. About $700, including CDs

1. Average Listening Time per Week
2. Average Cost per Listening Hour: $3.50
3. Average Cost per Week: $17.50

Too few hours !!!

Lemme see here:

$120 for HD580s
$80 for V6s
$100 for assorted DIY stuff
$100 on music (actualy this is lower than $100)
$120 for pcdp

$520 total
been doing this for about a year now so 52 weeks
I listen at least 2 hours a night, so 14 hours a week, 728 hours total.

That means:

1. 14 hours minimum

2. $0.71 per hour.

3. $10 a week.

I don't think I'm doing half bad....

I've been taking it carefully on the audio stuff... so that is;

$2200 over 60 weeks
About 30hrs a week of headphone use...

So that means:
$36.7/wk
$1.22/hr

Not bad for a high schooler...

$ loss over the past (buying-selling): $200
I bought two sets of MX500s, totals at $35
nice mini-RCA cable to hook my MDP up to my micro: $10
well, $250 for equipment Head-Fi and Headwize made me buy over the past 15 months.

also 40 or so minidiscs, $2 a piece: $80

and ofcourse almost 50 CDs, average of $12,50 (rough guess) means: $625
biggrin.gif
cool.gif
seems like a nice balance
biggrin.gif

totals at 950, just over $2 a day, somehwere around 8 hours of listening a day, so, like 25 $cents an hour.

wanna bet I'm the cheapest 1000+ member?

Let's see...

Total Money Spent: about $6500 (music not included)

Number of Hours: about 1500

Per Hour: $4.33

I think it's worth it... factor in music and it goes a little higher, but still, think of all the enjoyment. There's not much you can get for $4.33/hour that gives you as much enjoyment as all this fine music
