On some Macs with USB 3.0 running OS X Mavericks 10.9, WA7 and WA7d Fireflies can occasionally lose connection to the Mac.  If this has happened to you, please give the following a try.
 
***** be sure that the tubes are installed correctly.  There should not be much if any movement when you wiggle the tubes ******
 
- use a good quality USB cable

- Disconnect all USB devices connected to your Mac
 
- If you have Apple Cinema Display powering your MacBook via Thunderbolt, please USB ports on Display
 
With the Mac AND WA7 powered ON, disconnect the USB cable.  Wait a few seconds.... reinsert the USB cable.  Open AudioMidi and right-click on the device listed as “Speaker” in the device section on the left pane.  Ensure that “Use this device for sound output” is selected.  “24bit Integer” should now be available in the drop down list on the right side.  You can then select the sample rate.  
 
Lastly, try a powered USB hub like the one listed below.

Disconnect all USB and Thunderbolt devices except the monitor since you're using Mac Mini.  Start a guest account and boot into Guest to see if WA7 shows up in AudioMidi as a "speaker" device.
 
If you're using Apple Thunderbolt display, try the USB ports on the display.

I've done additional research and it appears to be a issue with the audio driver in OS X 10.9.  Before asking you to revert to OS X 10.8 audio driver, please try the following Terminal commands first.
 
Please use Time Machine to back up your Mac before doing this.
 
*** Must Log into Admin account on Mac ***
 
Run the "Terminal" application under /Applications/Utilities/Terminal or type “Terminal” in Spotlight
 
Then COPY (use copy and paste command) this line:  *** must be accurately entered ***
 
sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext
 
After typing the line press the enter/return key. You will be prompted for the password of the user account you're currently running. Note: You will not see the characters as you type. This is a security measurement and totally O.K. 
 
After typing the password press enter/return again and you should be done for the first line. Do the same for the next command (you won't be asked for the password again for this session…)
*** this part MUST be done ***
 
sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext
 
Reboot and then check AudioMidi to see if “Speaker” is listed in the list of audio devices.

SOLUTION (for me anyways) -
 
none of the above options worked for me with my mid 2012 MBA 13 BUT WA7d/tp recognised by older macbookpro also running yosemite
 
Resetting SMC and PRAM/NVRAM did the trick.....it basically resets a host of system settings including audio... 3.0 usb port instantly recognises and the midi audio options now availible.
 
I'm in sonic heaven
 
MBA + Qobuz desktop/25,000 loaded tracks+ Audirvana+  -> Wywires -> WA7d/tp (upgraded tubes in both) ->Cardas ->HD800 ->me + grin + whole Sunday ahead
