I just got this from Netflix, and I confess I loved every minute of it. Ate it up just like a classic 80s John Hughes movie.

I think this will be seen in years to come as a classic of its genre (teen-sex-comedy). It has it all-- memorable characters, catch-phrases, classic situations/scenes, and like a John Hughes movie, a real meaningful/touching core based on the visisitudes of the American High School experience. The aspect of the future college life-change breaking up high school friendships is an especially moving undercurrent.

I'd be willing to bet the primary actors in this film have a long career ahead of them (Jonah Hill and especially Michael Cera who just excels here). McLovin is a classic character, but you have to feel bad for the actor who portrays him; he may be a great actor, but he nailed this character so hard, he will forever be remebered as "McLovin". In 20 years time on VH-1 he is sadly a "where are they now" subject.

Yeah, the middle third of the film goes off track into darker territory unnecessarily, and the two cops have way too big a role in this (nice way for one of the writers, Seth Rogan, to insure a large part and payday

at the cost of his movie), and it deviates a little too far from the likely reality of these characters a few too many times, but still, it's a great ride, tackling the whole high-school experience from the underdog's POV.

Loved it!

One of my favorite recent movies.

My recent popular rankings have been:

Live Free or Die Hard
Superbad
Reno 911!
Casino Royale
Transformers
Iron Man

I have yet to see Indie, so things may change.

loved superbad. kinda lost a little of its footing nearing the end of the movie, but during the high school scenes, it was pure genius. not to say the rest of it was bad, i'm just saying the beginning was its high point.

and yea, sucks to be mclovin. he'll be like jason biggs, who, no matter what he does, will always be known...for ****ing a pie.

Am I the only one who thinks Jonah Hill has no future in acting?

Michael Cera, on the other hand, is a fantastic "Teen" actor. He did a wonderful job in Arrested Development, Superbad, and Juno. It's hard to believe he's the same age, and from the same neck of the woods as myself.

knocked up, accepted, 40 year old virgin, grandmas boy, forgetting sarah marshall?

hes squeezing his way into the frat pack. he will inherit steve corrells dynasty.

it's a decent movie. it's totally immature, and i'm fine with that, so long as the films accepts what it is. generally i think this is true, except maybe towards the end when they have the sleep over. overall i think it's a 7/10 movie since it is well made in terms of editing, sound, etc., but it has no lasting substance, subtlety, or artistic flare that the best films possess.

The various lines they could choose for the scene on the soccer filed are hilarious.

I'm a fan of Michael Cera, and have been since I first saw Arrested Development back when it was still on the air. To me, Michael Cera, Jason Bateman, and the late John Ritter are three generations of essentially the same actor. I can't help but laugh whenever they are on screen, they all have this "awkwardness" about them that just screams hilarious.

Jonah Hill, on the other hand, I cannot stand. He has ruined every movie I have seen him in except for Grandma's Boy, mainly because his character spend the majority of his onscreen time suckling at the breast of a random woman at a party. Sarah Marshall? Killed it. Knocked Up? Killed it. Superbad? Definitely killed it. Walk Hard, Evan Almighty, Accepted? Murdered. Strange Wilderness I walked out of. I don't know what it is, and I have tried to give his work a chance, but no go. I plain and simple cannot stand his acting. His mere presence in a movie, even if only for 2 seconds, is enough for me to remove a star from my rating.
