Love these phones, especially the bass, but felt a bit muffled in the high end. (I'm a Grado/Ultrasone fan so yeah, I like air & brightness). Finally figured out how to pull off the earpads. The drivers have a metal cover already so they're well-protected, but there's fabric on the inside of the earpads on top of that. Ripped it off, instant transparency! Just did this tonight but so far wonderful. (With speakers, I've always had to pull the grills off, HATE fabric over drivers.) The great thing is if I don't like it later I just pull the pads off and reglue the fabric back on.
 
Just compared the Denon fabric to my Grados & Ultrasones. They both do have a fabric layer, but it's like cheesecloth or panty hose. This Denon fabric is THICK with some kind of velour backing. What were they thinking?
