Why do you have all that if HD600 is all you need?

Hd600 is the ultimate reference tool.
Use it as the tool. All summit-fi headers should have it as a tool.

The ones who dismiss it, are snake-oil liars

What about those who prefer to use the HD650 as a tool?
Are you telling them that their slight variance in head shape/ear shape/preference for supposed "reference neutral" is incorrect just because yours is the HD600?

Even if we all agreed that the 6XX series was "reference gold," this wouldn't take into account the variances within this line.
NOR does it take into account unit-to-unit variance, pad variance over time, etc.

There are many other headphone designs out there that don't wear to the same degree as something like the HD 6XX series.

I can't argue with this logic.

Well, I’m sure you could, but not successfully with someone who irrationally speaks.

That's all great and everything; there's one person who has the absolute authority than everyone in headfi and that is legendary Tyll.

Let him answer your question. And that's also my answer too. It's only the last 2min

I was a friend of Tyll's while I lived in Bozeman... before he moved on from this hobby.
Something tells me that he would agree with my side of the argument.
Tyll can see reason. This is part of why he was a pioneer in the objective side of this hobby. Heck, he would likely disagree with the statement you made of him being the "absolute authority."
Heck, Headroom was founded on the principle of providing well-performing non-snake-oil amplifiers and products to audiophiles.

The objective side of this hobby has expanded a lot since those days.
There are many authorities on the topic and most of them tend to agree that we have a lot left to learn.
Even with what we do know, there are A LOT of variables to consider in every scenario.

For Tyll, his age may have contributed to the HD 600 preference, over (say) an HD 650.
Or maybe it was his ear canal shape and size, or his head shape and size. Could even just be a tonal preference.
Although he made measurements, they only truly apply to the unit measured and the measurement rig he utilized.

Believe it or not, I have been in that room and had personal headphones measured on his rig.
Of course, this was a decade ago now, but the point remains.

Have you heard the Sony Qualia 010?
Yes, i think I heard over 200 headphones 😆

It's bad, short and sweet.

It can be great but it's just bad 😆 it's a hype realistic HD800. But too thin, bright, harsh, and analytical.

Can it be great? Yes, with R2R dac, tube's and so forth to warm it down.

So here's an interesting question, where would you rank the HE1?

All rise, the church of protoss has started : :kissing_heart:

Let us expose,

For Tyll, his age may have contributed to the HD 600 preference, over (say) an HD 650.
Or maybe it was his ear canal shape and size, or his head shape and size. Could even just be a tonal preference.
Although he made measurements, they only truly apply to the unit measured and the measurement rig he utilized.

This right here is the core problem with all of summit-fi, and why I repeat that summit-fiers have no idea what they are talking about. It's always a scapegoat - "well, it's his age," "well, it's his ear," "well, it's his lifestyle" - and the most deranged summit-fi idea is, "what are you saying? It's $18,000 dollars, it must be the best of the best." No substance, no real acknowledgment of frequencies and human connection.

As a repeated, repeat, the HD600 is close to neutral, soft, and warm headphone that humans can relate and understand, that is natural to almost a close degree. All the gears that summit-fiers have that I called out in previous pages are unnatural, not human-friendly, and outright rubbish.

It is not about age or ears or 360 jumps, rolling on the floor preference that makes a person go from analytical, bright headphone to neutral, warm. It's literally a human natural instinct for a natural, calm, balance, accurate, warm, lush sound. So yes, you are wrong in almost everything, and so are 99% of summit-fers.
