I was wondering if you all could point me in the right direction, please. I need a pair of headphones with as much of an open sound as I can get while keeping them pretty closed (at least as far as sound leakage to the outside goes). I'm looking for something with a bit of a V-shaped signature, preferably with a longer/replaceable cable.

Right now I have a pair of Fostex TH-900 that I love for this task, but I'd rather keep them safe as they are somewhat fragile. I've tried the Audio Technica ATH-m50x, but they are lacking too much in the highs and have a very closed sound.

Price limit is $400, but I'd prefer between $200-$300. New only, please.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Cool. Which version; 25 Ohm, 80 Ohm or 250 Ohm?

Sounded like the 80 Ohm was going to be a good choice, so I went with that. My Yamaha receiver will be the source, so it has some power, but not a ton. Hopefully this'll fit well.

Pioneer HRM-7: http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-HRM-7-Professional-Studio-Headphones/dp/B00TCV9I10/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1442433910&sr=8-1&keywords=pioneer+hrm-7

Has the biggest soundstage of any closed headphone under $400 by FAR. Here's the HRM-7 thread:

It'll be light on the bass with the stock velour pads, but I switched to Hifiman pads and they gave it more weight:

Thanks! I've already purchased the Beyer DT770, but I'll definitely give those a look if the 770s don't work out.
