Suggestions for $100 budget

I just picked up a used pair of MS-1s out of curiosity about the Grado sound, and I gotta say they're quite good. They are in most respects much better than my considerably more expensive DT770s. Well, maybe they just have better synergy with my tube amp. Either way, I'm impressed.

Aren't the DT770s a sealed can? Therefore wouldn't the open aired MS-1s naturally sound better? Either way, still great to hear as I hear the DT770s are excellent. If my friend doesn't buy them, I'll cry.

Another question, what are the earpads like on them? I thought I saw the donut pads, but it also looked like there was a comfy pad on it too???

definitely put the Equation Audio RP-21 and RP-15mc on your list 'o considerations. The other things the guys are suggesting re: Allesandro, Audio Technica are also good performers.

Doesn't necessarily work that way. I wouldn't put MS-1s up against Darth Beyers.

Ooh, Unicorns reference, very nice. Also, Crazy88, I think you need a Johnny Mo avatar to go with that name. OK, back on topic ... the MS-1 comes with the comfy pads, just like the SR-60.

Just tell your friend to buy a pair of MS-1 and dont look back once! They are SUPERB!

Just own mine for about some time now and they get better all times!

Best $99 spent EVER!!!

) if they are portable?.. well, in my case i bought them not looking into that, but i got so much passioned with their sound that now, a lot of times i have to get them back with me... (lutwey should be refering to the lenght and diameter of the cable, and the volume of the HP themselves... but) even when i'm travelling by train - which I do a lot, i take them! YES, people do stop looking at you, but you'll be so pleased by your sound that you just think, they are TOTALLY JEALOUS!!!!!

Another eclectic here.
MS-1s does rock, blues, jazz, soul and R&B beautifully. I'd like a tad more impact and extension when it comes to bass, but that's coming from a basshead. Great highs and clear beautiful midrange ensure that your friend won't be disappointed though.

In short: you can't go wrong with the MS-1s.

i think i proven i'm somehow biased, but yeah, in short i double in_the_membrane

YOU CANT GO WRONG WITH MS-1!

(i think it is also clear SR60 is different enough! - you said you had ones yourself...

and of course KSC75 are good... for their price! IMO, not comparable with MS-1 - even if with a combo with SR60)...
