Hi, i was wondering if Asus STX will deliver SQ good enough to match with decent SS amp and K701?

What do You think?

It's a better source stock than an upgraded Zero which is in the same price range. Even better with some opamp rolling =]

I see that You are using STX as a source with good amp and headphones.
Did You compared it to stand alone dac using this setup?

Yep, the Zero DAC w/ discrete Earth module in the DAC section. I had it connected to a Little-Dot I+ amp. The Essence alone was a big step up from that combo. The HeadRoom amp was another big step up =]

I own a stx whit 3B opamps and clock upgrade and I would say its a very good source DAC in range of 500$. You must spend more than 500$ for an noticed difference in SQ. I have the STX connected to an darkvoice 3322 and AKG K701 and its just perfect....

Which dacs did you compare the STX to?

I did not compare to any other but I said this is my opinion that I think its so. According to my listening experience whit my other hifi components not head-fi!!!

I surely like the Essence ST with the K701. The original opamps seems to be made with the K701 in mind. I am not at all crazy about it on my Pro 900 though.

My Keces 131.1 mk 2 dac is well under the 500$ mark but yes it´s very hard to say that it´s not just the synergy that makes me preferr one over the other

. I may just preferr the Keces due to me preferring my Pro 900 and speakers over the K701. I haven´t began the opamp rolling though. I still wait for a cable so I can try the Pro 900 out from the headphone amp

My k701 will ship in few days and I wanted to buy STX to drive it for now and some amp in few weeks.

No, The DAC section of the STX uses one of the highest quality chips avialable.
You can use the internal amplifier and add another amplifier at a later date.

The chip doesn't make the card.

Edit: oops, thought it had an AK4396 like every sound card ever.
