Is there a difference if you're using a cable in one direction or another? For instance, does an rca-mini cable work exactly the same if it were to connect a ipod to a reciever input as it would to connect a recievers output to an amp with a 1/8 connector? I've heard once a cable is used going one direction it should always be used like that. Does that direction come preset in a cable like this? Sorry if the wording is confusing, thanks in advance.

That cable does in fact have directional arrows. Whether or not they mean anything is another question. They become important if the cable uses an assymetrical geometry, such as grounding the shield at only one end of the cable. Otherwise, you can use a cable in either direction. I've used the Best Buy cable both ways, and just haven't noticed a difference.
