has anyone seen this tube? It's a triple mica short grey plate marked ECC 83...I got it from eric343 and can't seem to find another reference to it...it came in an ei box, but I think even eric says that is suspect...

Otherwise known as a 12AX7 or CV4004. As used in the EAR V-20 and others.

I have an Ei ECC-83. The label has the Ei in a circle, Yugoslavia underneath and ECC-83 underneath that. The plates are silver, aluminum-looking, 2 mica, halo getter.

Sounds like you have something different, unless Ei has more than one ECC-83 version.

ECC-83 is just another moniker for the 12AX7, used as the center tube in the MG Head amp, and in many others as well.

The US and Europe used different designations for tubes. 12AX7 is an American designation. ECC83 is a European designation for the same tube. 12AT7 is ECC81. And so on...

Anyone know of a 12AX7 with triple micas?
I think ei used the telefunken machinery. Is this just an ei variation?

damn! this tube is labeled ECC83, triple mica grey short flat plates.
I have done some searching..nada...
This tube looks NOS...
Just wanted to post this last description in case someone should come across it.

If it has some funky shiny steel supports inside (between the bottom and second-from-top micas), it's a Sovtek.
