Well just think about all the money you'd save on your heating bill

$350K will get you a VERY nice house (3000+ sq ft) in my area.

This has got to be the first thread I've seen where everyone was gawking over the insane price of a piece of audio equipment...

This wont be the first time it has happened.

I suspect most tube amps score below par on these tests.

if i was someone like kevin gilmour i'd make a production run of like 10 KG Signature Series amps and sell them to stupidly rich people for like 50,000 but they need to look the part that's all

heck... you could probably put 50kg weights in a big beadblasted metal case and just mount a ppa inside and sell it to people who can afford these things

there are people out there so stupidly rich (high net worth individuals, HNWI) that there are jobs for people to just invent ways for HNWIs to spend their money

Only the best.
They can afford it.

This arguement doesn't work because you'll get killed in the summer for air conditioning

What price audio perfection. Perhaps you should ask the 3 billion people on the planet who live on less that $1 a day. You could also save a lot of people's lives for $350,000...

the tube (833) is an AM radio transmitter driver.

i just went looking, again, and it seems to have gone missing; but one Simon Busbridge, who posted on headwize for a while built both a 12B4A headphone amp, which was cool, as well as a stereo pair of 833 amps. lots o pictures.

each was the size kitchen trash can. the power load resistor (for soft turn on) is the size of a normal loaf of bread.

his site seems to come and go, as well as the retailer who was/is going to sell it. IIRC the price was about $120,000 the pair. lots cheaper.

For $350,000/pair, you would've think that the manufacturer would give you a longer warranty than "1 year parts & labor; 6 months, tubes".

If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, $350K may possibly get you into a studio. No guarantees.
