Is there any benefit in using a DPDT switch to 1) switch the live wire on the STEPS input and simultaneously 2) switch the output from the STEPS to the PPA ?

Just as an aside, with all the discussions over time of reverse biasing problems at shutdown, I'm surprised that I don't recall ever seeing this very simple solution offered. In your case, with the PPA, it probably would not do anything more than PPA D1 does for you, but for an amp that isn't reverse bias protected, this is a very elegent solution. Adding a diode has other benefits, of course and I don't think I would want a serious wall powered amp without one, but it is an interesting mental exercise. A diode is also cheaper than upgrading to a DP switch if cost is the main concern.
