The frequencies ranges are pretty different. I dont know if that makes a huge difference but if it does then the dt's win.

DT 990
 
Frequency range: 5 - 35,000 Hz

I myself for the past week have been looking into buying the FA-011.
I do not believe the FA-011 (150-Ohm)are better then the DT990 (250-Ohm), but they do cost less.
I'm just trying to find something will work with in your budget range.
To game (using surround sound) with the DT990 and have the DT990 sound it's best.
Something like the Asus Xonar Essence STX (or ST) would do the job.
Or the Titanium HD.
Or a Xonar DX or D1 with the Fiio E9 amplifier.
Or even the Xonar DG with the Fiio E11.

Mine PC 350 works awesome while gaming. Every time I use it I fall in love with it again. I have used DT 880 at my friends place but is way lot costlier.

Just a heads up. After reading a lot, reading opinions from many people I finally ordered the DT 990 pro's. And will buy a E11 later on.
