Stax SR-X9000

Agree with all of this. I think staging, imaging and layering can all be improved while maintaining a smooth tonality.

The roll off in the highs definitely contributes to the "smoothness" of the CRBN. I think it's generally harder to achieve that type of smoothness while also having great extension in the highs, which also impacts perceived detail. Everyone's varying tolerances complicates this further. Some people are simply more sensitive to treble energy--something that's harsh and bright to one person may not all be to another. I think the x9000 has a pretty decent balance in this regard, but some still have mentioned a bit of brightness for their liking.

But I'd be just fine with the CRBN keeping its current tuning (again, it's very enjoyable), if the staging opened up considerably and if the holographic layering stats are known for were present. Hopefully in a future release. :)

Yah. Pretty much my only complaint with crbn Is that it's over damped. That said, imo, it 1,000% competes (and maybe wins) at its price point. It's just when we start going "the top offering from each company" where it starts to fall behind (and only realy to stuff 50%+ more expensive to boot)

I agree as that target has been realized by the preference of the mass in audiophile community and as a reference by engineers and companies.Or what is the better reference?

such as hd800s, but that's because it's well balanced.
Actually, you do agree with me :)

Because the HD800S and HD800 mod are high up following the Harman curve.

HD800S beats, Utopia, 009, Susvara, Arya, Abyss Diana, and so many headphones. It is very high up the ladder in following the curve. :)

Best way to fix (not really fix) the Harman Curve is to boost the following as I mention earlier.

That is to boost the Bass, Midrange and treble. This is very hard to do because the headphone can sound muddy, unnatural, bloated and uneven. We need a master class engineer on this. Maybe Dan Clark can solve it?

BTW, STAX sucks at being natural... Dont hate :p

This discussion is about the X9000 but I do feel a good representation of electrostatics with the Voce with the new earpads (they are a must for it). There is a big change in sound to my ears, when these are used. A huge plus.

Eh, the mids and bass are pretty far recessed from Harman. They are far enoygh I personaly am not comfortable calling the cans Harman at least. I will say that the trebble decay is quite Harman though, and that seems quite important for my own personal enjoyment.

Hard hard agree. First stax ive ever felt has generaly good timbre is the x9k. Estats can have good timbre (felt timbre on he60 and shnag Jr were quite solid even if still half a tier behind sus and mysphere) but it's not been a historic strong point for stax specificaly imo.

As for a DCA stat, idk... personaly, I am very much so not a fan of voce and while the stealth wad tuned excellently I wasn't the biggest fan overall due kinda lacking emotion. I trust they could get some fantastic tuning done but I don't exactly trust they will be able to make a super balanced can (stealth already has 0 slam as a planar)

I'm not quite sure what's meant here, but the HD800S (and the HD800), and the SR-009S, are diffuse-field referenced. They aren't referenced to the Harman curve.

Thank you for pointing that out the topic here plus I guess It shouldn't be one person to determine what is the reference curve ( which theoretically should be built on mass data), while everyone is entitled to have a preferred personal sound sig.

Wow it doesn't matter if I say agree or disagree ( or hard agree, hard disagree... Lol) like who am I. But I respect your preference.

EQ’ing works well on some headphones and can sound horrible on others.
I am using a EQ curve (in Roon) i found online (think it is from here: https://github.com/jaakkopasanen/AutoEq/blob/master/results/README.md
The SR-009 loves EQ and goes from “just” good to amazing with EQ (more bass, cleans up the middle and tames the highs) - add HQPLAYER and a NOS R2R dac and you are in heaven😎👍
I adjust the curve depending on what i listen too - good modern recordings i use it as measured - older recordings (especially music from the 80’s) i put an extra shelf in to lower the treble further.

I will be receiving my X9000 on Wednesday, ordered them on November 22, 2021 will receive them on August 10, 2022 nice little wait.
I bought the X9000 with the Blue Hawaii but then found out that there would be a wait for the X9000, I then purchased the Audeze CRBN since I had to wait for the X9000.
I like the Audeze CRBN a lot and am looking forward to the X9000 to see how they compare.
