Stax SR-X9000

Yes, I did.
I listened to the X9000 first on the LTA Z10e. To me they sounded horrible so the CRBN. At that point I got very concerned.

Then I went to the Woo room and listen to the CRBN on the new Woo amp and they sounded really good. In my opinion the CRBN sound is somewhere in the middle between planar and electrostatic. While there I listened to the X9000 on the big 300b Woo electrostatic amp and I had a sigh of relief…. They sounded fantastic. Very open, detailed with pin point precision. The bass is clearly better than my SR-009. One thing to note is that the new smaller woo amp was designed specifically to pair with the CRBN and will not power correctly the X9000 according to Mike and Jack from Woo.

Those were the only two X9000 on the show as far as I know.

I also listened to the CRBN with the BHSE and the Carbon. In both they sounded really good and very similar. IMO the have a smaller soundstage presentation in comparison to the X9000. The CRBN bass might be a little better but if so it is not by much. IMO the bigger difference is in presentation. I perceived the CRBN projecting a “wall of sound” while the X9000 present a more holographic soundstage.

@Audio Addict, for us the big question is if the A10 has the power to take the X9000 to it’s potential. I would guess yes because it powered nicely the SR-007 MkII I had and the X9000 is supposedly more efficient that them.

Is there a new smaller woo audio electrostatic amp coming out?

Yes. Specially designed for the CRBN.
I think the price is about $3k. So for $7.5 you can get into electrostatics with a really nice sounding system. The only issue is it cannot drive the X9000 and because of that I don’t think will drive the 007 either. Not sure about the 009.

It is about the size of the WA22 but the transformers are not as tall.

Neat, thanks for sharing. I suppose this is it in the photo below then. Looks similar, but different knob set up and power button.

Yes, that’s it. If you see the transformers are lower basically at the same level of the taller tubes.

Doesn’t make any sense to me. The CRBN is more difficult to drive than the 009. Even Birgir agreed it’s closer to 007 level of difficulty.

Don’t know. That’s what I was told by the Woo people when I asked to listen to the X9000 on that amp.

Maybe they want you to buy 2 amplifiers.

Don’t know but why to buy two. In that case just buy the bigger one for both headphones.

I've already ordered my X9000 and I think it will be the first batch. I am a user of HE90/HE60/STAX009S/009/007. I used to be a user of VOCE too.

I hope X9000 will have a better sound stage performance than current Stax headphones. I've never listened to SR-Omega. If it is a successor of Omega it will be great.
stage is the biggest progress for X9000 and I ganrantee you for that
