So if I removed it on my Lambda Pro it'd sound more like an SR-303/404?

Strange, the LNC/LNS isn't stated to sound horrible, and it has very similar drivers to the current gen 303/404 and very similar frame obviously as well.

They won't be identical but have some similarities in terms of signature.

The Nova series and the x0x series use virtually identical drivers (same PCB stators though different diaphragm material) but I do have an untested theory why they sound so different. Stax changed the glue a while back from some nasty petroleum stuff (very good of course) to some eco friendly crap that doesn't stick as well. While I can't be sure that Stax uses the same stuff to fix earpads as they use on the drivers but it does look similar. The glue does matter a whole lot but all of this is not proven in any way.
