Very very exciting: May be we will not need anymore to have a SR009 AND a SR007 to get the best of booth world.

My BHSE is waiting to try this new baby. And I am waiting to test it with the next TOL from HeadAmp that is supposed to TOP the BHSE (all tube design, NOT hybrid like the BHSE).

All tubes designs ? The Megatron ?

The T2 is still a hybrid :D lol. Then from KG himself, the only thing gives him the feel of T2 is the Cyclotron.

There is nothing wrong with the sentence "It is expensive because it sounds very good." I don't get the hate at all. This is just a precise description of the free market system.

Is a SR-009S worth 5000 Dollars? Gimme a break. It's all about demand.

Has KG designed an all tube stat amp? Sorry, could be a dumb question. i.e. all tube gain stage, solid state power supply. The T2 has Fets still, the BHSE 3 gain stages plus the tubes makes 4 stages. I think the Carbon is 3 gain stages (all SS). JimL can clarify.....

No. Because it sounds good.

Ali

We are all gagging for some user feedback here. The pre-launch and rumour stuff is just annoying IMO. I will sit up and take notice when someone here gets there mitts on one and is testing it using a KG amp v the original 009s or 007 MK1 or latest 007 version.

To be fair with Stax, the SR-009S is only 13.5% more expensive than the SR-009
https://audioconcept.se/?s=sr-009&post_type=product&type_aws=true&id=1&filter=1 (38800kr for SR-009, 44000kr for SR-009S)

Also, the SR-009 required an obscene amount of $$ for R&D if we read this article:

See for 2010 (the Stax "C32", prototype name for the SR-009, was revealed in 2010 and launched in 2011), net profit: -$345,439!!
Time flies, see this picture: 30 of October of 2010, that's an 8 years product lifespan, without releasing another model, doubling it's price and saying "because it sounds good"...of course it sounds good, but the real reason is "because it costs an obscene amount of money to develop and is not a FOTM product"

The fact that in 2011 they had to eat chinese spring roll to survive and be more profitable (Edifier buys Stax in 2011) tells us that no one in Stax is rich, drives Ferraris or jokes with things like "this headphone is going to cost more than my SUV" on his Weibo account (cough, cough).

I think that, considering this, the SR-009S and the SR-009 are fairly priced.

Hard to think how a much improved 009 would sound, especially without going double price.

Excited to hear it, hopefully it will be in for CanJam London in a quiet room!

New diaphragm probably means even less mass to move, that equals better performance, better resolving power - at least in theory.
But if it doesn't suffer from the dreaded imbalance issues that plagued some of its SR-009 ancestors, that's worth the price of admission alone. That's why buying an out of warranty SR-009 can be a bit risky.

Of course this is not something that only time can confirm but they had seven years to develop (and not from scratch), so it should be at least much less likely.

Now the question mark is, are they just selling all the remaining SR-009 stock and discontinue it afterwards (there is probably fair amount of those left) or is it going to remain as part of their lineup between the SR-009S and SR-007 Mk2.
