Stax: SR 002 + Srm 002 and Srm 003 mk2 + Srm 003 impression and appreciation thread

Well, I don't mind doing one myself if I can buy the connectors and cable.
If anybody knows where to get something that could work, much appreciated :)
Also, what is the polarity of the power adapter. Is it tip + like the Sony AC E454?

How do some of you people listen to these without the headband? For me at least they don't want to stay in my ear.

That's why I like the older tips: they grip much better for me, so the earphones wont fall out as you say. Personally I can't imagine anyone using them with the headband, as it's just really awkward for me.

I don't think connectors are that easy to come by anymore.  I have been hunting for some male 5 pins for another project and from I can tell a lot of the connectors you used to be able to source are discontinued.  I hope someone has a source that they offer up!

I went ahead and purchased the 003 cable and now I can easily swap back and forth between portable amp and desk top/full size.

I will let you know the power adapter polarity when I get back to the office and can check the amp, but it is marked on the amp itself.  I just purchased one of the more universal power sources that lets you swap the polarity by reversing the tip.

I may have a source for the 5 pin connectors will get back to you. Btw shipsupt do you happen to know where I can get foam that is used in the backing of the lambda models?

I'm using the old tips as well and they don't go all the way into my ear canals just sit outside it and they don't hold for me at least, so the headband is needed. I've tried using normal IEM tips but the seal is horrid.

Thanks for the links to the plug sources!  That's just what I need.

The guys at Electromod/Highendworkshop (they seem like the same outfit) have been outstanding at finding all sorts of STAX parts for me here in the UK including the back-wave foam for the Lamdas.

Yes it is the older tips has better grip for me , Stax has 2 different sizes M and L , for me fix M better than L.
i don't have any ptoblem to use my sr 002 with M older tips , without headband.

Do you use M or L eartips size !
if you find the correct , it can fit in your ear .

Thanks, have gone through them before but did not know they stocked the foam. These will surely give my Lambda Pro's a nice makeover.

For work and otherwise, I use the headband with the SR-003 and with proper bending, it provides just enough pressure to keep the tips pressed against my ear canal opening. That is, I want a tip that seats against the outside of my ear canal rather than plug in like an IEM (have plenty of those already). Advantages (for my use) are comfort and ability to quickly remove for a phone call or when the boss walks in.

Here's something that I found works well. Take the foamy from a large-bore universal (I'm using old Shure E2 foamies; still have the old beat-to-$hit E2s too), peel out the inner-hard tube, and then stretch the foam donut around the ear tip receiver. Pic below.

I'm actually finding the foamie more comfortble than the original tips; sound signature about the same, given an equal seal. I'm not trying to compress them and then quickly insert and let them expand; just leaving them full size, putting on the cans, and then rotating the drivers as normal until they seat against my ear canal opening.

I know I'm getting a good seal because if I push in on the casing just slightly, I hear what many have deemed the Stax Fart. BTW - I think we need a more PC term. How about "Statsulence".... ha ha; get it? I digress...

Not certain how the new SR-003Mk2's nozzle will work with these particular foamies, but I should know by this Thursday when my SRS-002 portable arrives (Thank you, Headamp).

Oops, didn't see it because my iPod is attached to it. Sorry about that.

Thanks You for the link.
I guess any cable would do.
The other side has 6 flat connectors. Trying to find the part.

What a great idea. I've owned a pair SR-001's for years. I try them periodically, hate the fit, and put them away. With the foamie idea they actually fit, feel comfortable, and have WAY more bass. Thanks.

Thanks for posting pics of plug and jack; I am definitely planning on building a portable to 5-pin adapter.

Was actually hoping for more of a straight pin configuration as to perhaps repurpose portions of a molex connector; no such luck. Do please update if you find a similar plug and/or pins; not beyond molding or carving a housing.

If you're looking for the SRM proprietary plugs such as the one in the picture you've posted. You will not find them for sale individually at all and there is no OEM that manufactures them that you can buy separately.
