Today I picked up a pair of AKG k314p earbuds (cheap and best I can get on campus. They are quite decent for their $25 CDN pricetag). Anyhow, I kept getting static shocks in the ear while using them. I read that some PK2 owners also had this problem.

Back in the days, when I still used the stock ipod earbuds, I never noticed this problem. Is this problem associated with the k314 and PK2 specifically or is it a problem with earbuds in general (whereas IEMs are immune)? I certainly never get static shocks when using my Ety's.

And lastly, any fixes?

I've never had earbuds give me static. I've had IEMs ground static from me into my laptop though.

Are you dragging your feet over carpet? Socks on plastic chair coasters?

Static is weather / environment related, not IEM / earbud related. You could have put a roll of wire in your pocket and still get shock when you try to stick them into your ears - not that you'll like to do that of course
