Hi, I just joined after lurking here for 5 month or so

Im currently using HD555's with my ipod and thinking of purchasing a used SR80 locally. Im wondering what the SR80's are like compared to my 555.
I mostly listen to, live acoustic recordings made on the md, alternative, folk and jazz.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have listened to SR60's, 80's, 125's & 225's. They all had Bowl pads. Out of those I liked the SR80's the best.

But if I were to choose between SR80's or MS1's..I would get MS1's

The SR-80 is a very good hp. IMO it does acoustic and jazz really well, as well as rock (obviously) and electronic. The fact that its available locally is a real plus. Go for it, I doubt you will be disappointed.

I definitely prefer the SR80 to the HD555 by a large margin. They're very different headphones to me. Both have their share of weaknesses but the SR80s have an element fun that can lead you to overlook their lack of refinement. I have to admit though I'm no fan of the HD555s, they're the muddiest headphones I've heard in recent years.
