Hi all, just recently got a new computer and only have my Beyer dt770 cans for audio. I got the Creative Titanium HD soundcard so didnt slack in that area but want some speakers just for when friends come over and listen to music and watch movies etc I dont want to spend too much as im a student and broke
 
I heard great things about Swan speakers but i dont know if they will have enough bass without a subwoofer, and i not sure if i can afford both! 
 
So for £200 ($300) all in what would be my best option for good bass whilst retaining decent mids and highs?
 
Due to me being in the UK i havent found too many sites that have Swan speakers but did find this one:

so would the Swans D1080 Mark II for £200 be my best option or the D1010 with a v cheap sub be better? Would there be a lack of bass compared with my Beyer dt770´s? I really like the deep bass that you can feel and will i only be able to achieve that with a sub? (seem expensive!) listen to allot of melodic dubstep (look up blackmill on youtube...amazing!) so bass is not the only important thing, but i cant bear bass with no kick and depth!

Why not dip into Gumtree UK and nab some classic/vintage amps and floor standers that go fairly low

I'd rather start with strong 2.0s than 2.1 with mediocre subs and some entry level subs struggle to go down to 40hz even

Thanks will have a look, although would prefer something a bit more compact with me off to uni next year. Anything you recomend amps and speakers wise?

Id recommend an all in 1 system, the bass is important with dubstep, id recommend this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Edifier-S530-2-1-channel-multimedia-speaker/dp/B001KNT8Z4/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1326127231&sr=8-13 , the edifier 2.1's are really good there basically 2 bookshelf speakers and a sub the bookshelf speakers sound really good aswell.

Ok they seem to have some good reviews on here, but would the Swan D1010 be better apart from bass (how are the mids and highs)? Could add a sub at later date if i decided it wasnt good enough...so confussed lol

The swans will likely be much better, but the edifiers aren't bad the mids and highs are clean and clear sounding there small bookshelf speakers are actually pretty good quality, you could add a sub to the swans any time but you will need a sub with a low level (RCA) pass thru.

Right ok, also the Edifer S530 have a built in DAC but as i already have a good soundcard i dont think that will be necissary...would really appreciate it if you could maybe point out a decent amp in the UK that would work with the swans, just not too sure on what i would be looking for tbh

The edifier does have a built in dac it also has analog inputs so you can choose to use it or not use it. The swans are active the amp is built in you don't need any more amps.

So ill look for 2 bookshelfs then, would passive or active be better here? Dont mind used but would want around £200 to be the budget so i think that sub will be too much Only 80 dollars in the US lol

Thanks mate, yeh i spose i was being ambitious in getting a sub for my budget...just seeing people reccomend that Datona one for $80 in the US and I didnt realise they woud be soo expensive in the UK. I will keep an eye on gumtree as some of the deals you posted looked great just a bit too far away im in Essex you see

You would be better off buying the amp new or 1 thats unused, that sub you linked to is a passive car subwoofer no good for your hifi set-up , and these speakers http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/acoustic-studio-3311-3-way-digital-monitor-speakers/94171438 look like some white van speakers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_van_speaker_scam , the others are worth looking into though.

Thanks man, for £200 though would i be better off just getting that Edifier S530 setup where it has a sub too? Or would some of those used bookshelfs and that amp you linked be better IYO?
