I have a set of speakers that have been cutting in and our randomly. I've figured out there's a break somewhere right above the 3.5mm connector (cable is ATTACHED to the speakers). Kind of like this:

Is it possible to replace the connector on the speaker the female end of a 3.5mm extender (I have an extender cable already, I plan on cutting it in half):

so that I can replace the cable again in the future? and if so, how do I figure out which wire goes where? I don't see a way to figure out left from right on the speaker wire.
Hope that made sense and thanks in advance!
