I have a set of speakers that have been cutting in and our randomly. I've figured out there's a break somewhere right above the 3.5mm connector (cable is ATTACHED to the speakers). Kind of like this:

Is it possible to replace the connector on the speaker the female end of a 3.5mm extender (I have an extender cable already, I plan on cutting it in half):

so that I can replace the cable again in the future? and if so, how do I figure out which wire goes where? I don't see a way to figure out left from right on the speaker wire.

Hope that made sense and thanks in advance!

Using a multi meter in continuity setting, place the black touching the tip of the jack and red touching one of the other parts of the pin. You should hear a noise thru the corresponding (Left or right Speaker). Now, cut the cable and strip back the two none bare (bare will be ground and therefore the tip) and again use continuity to identify the left and right wire from the pigtail. The colors should correspond all the way down the line from the connector to speaker. You might get lucky though and find that the conductors inside the shield have a color on the jacket. Red means right, white means left.

Just couple them with dolphin connectors/wire nuts and repair is done.

Please feel free PM me if you have any q's.
