I think the price point is spot on for a top contending at a value type device. To compete today, you need to offer a better device or more for less and at this price it needs to sound better than things like a zx1 or ak100II that simply work very well. Of course it will take function and sound to justify but even in their inexpensive home unit, their digital signal managing is effective and it should be updated here. Getting the best in digital has much to do with what enters the convertor. My guess is that this player will not be dry and quite analog sounding. I'll be interested to see how functional, natural and 'PRATty' it turns out.

Since there will be 4 different versions, is it possible that the most expensive version is priced at $799 (under $800) while the cheapest is a more affordable $3-400?

Guess we'll see after they are officially revealed.

How to make the best sound quality in lossless digital music player we have more than four years' hi-end product experience on that.  Before 2011, as senor audio team, SOUNDAWARE developed a unique architecture to support the digital music file with hi-end sound quality. independent FPGA is to real-timely decode the lossless music file with individual and native ultra-low noise audio crystal, for three years’ upgrading, not only the digital file decoding, but also integrating the advanced digital process technologies on it, ultra-low jitter SPDIF output, clock and FIFO data real-time locking, noise isolation, jitter isolation and so on. From our view, DAC is a passive DA process, although some advanced DA chip with DPLL feature (such as ES9018), but it can’t absolutely solve the jitter and noise issue from the receiver side, this is very difference as SOUNDAWARE architecture. SOUNDAWARE focus on the hi-end lossless digital music player to provide live and high fidelity sound from the source. We released professional D100 PRO digital transport more than two years, and A200S integrated the D100 pro and reference DAC as the flagship product. Esther inherits them, lets back to the live sound feeling and high fidelity, which is our pure needs. “Aware of The pure sound”, that is the SOUNDAWARE.

The 4 different versions might just mean 4 different colours, but I'm not saying that is actually the case; just that it might be the case.
