Came back after 6 months to see how things were going, hopefully for the better.

Somehow, it’s worse. Significantly worse.

Good to get a reminder above of how inequitably the rules are applied here vs. the rest of the forum. Message received.

Sites profits off of every post made, both directly and indirectly. Given the circumstances, I don’t know why any of the SS regulars continues to contribute to the troll fest that is this subforum. Let it go. Let the bad information stay. Let the sheep get fleeced. This is a battle that can’t be won.

I’m here because this is our forum to discuss science. They made a deal when they banished us from the rest of headfi. I’m going to hold them to it.

The signal to noise ratio regarding actual discussion of science is terrible.

The majority of the posts here repeat the same science we already agree on each time a troll pops up. Very little audio science beyond that seems to come up.

If you want to keep putting money into the pockets of the owners, have at it. If you want to discuss audio science, there are far better places than here.

Why does headfi allow people to directly refer to me and Gregorio then? For example, just about every post by funkybassman.

If there are potential problems with posts or posters, please use the report button to bring them to the moderators' attention for review.

My main reason to hang around here on Head-Fi is because of the music sub-forum. With 531K members it does give access to a large community of people who like music (one would hope so anyway). For promoting/sharing one of my favourite music sub-genres there simply aren't any other suitable/better forums I have found yet (e.g. Reddit which is far too transitory, Steve Hoffman Music forums which has its own issues, JROCKONE which is far too obsessed with Visual Kei.)

The Sound Science forum is the other sub-forum here which I occasionally partake in. Most threads start off OK for the first few posts, but then the trolls roll in :xf_rolleyes:

And there are a few dedicated threads for the vintage Sennheiser HD540 Reference and HD250 Linear headphones I keeps an eye on, because those are my own favourite headphones.

EDIT: I should add that I do learn a lot about sound engineering & production techniques by simply following some of the discussions in the Sound Science forum here.

This forum would be a lot better with a little moderation to eliminate unproductive participation before it spins out of control. It’s usually abundantly clear where the trouble will be coming from.

[Mod Comment] As a reminder, Head-Fi does not allow personal comments / discussions about individuals on the forums. If there are potential problems with posts or posters, please use the report button to bring them to the moderators' attention for review. Thanks all.

At least you also removed his posts openly criticising the entire user base of Sound Science so my gripe wasn’t for nothing.

If it is OK for someone to publicly criticise me I sure as hell will publicly comment back, not go running off to the mods. Others might think differently and that is their prerogative.

@bigshot Maybe they are too busy keeping an eye on the rest of Head Fi to ensure the advertisers are happy and the money keeps coming in to worry about subjective zealots trolling the science guys.

I’m sure we aren’t their first priority. But I’ve googled topics and have seen my own headfi posts come up near the top. We are drawing traffic here.

Maybe those who know they're selling snake oil troll the science forum to keep you lot tied up and constantly fighting a rear guard action and not discussing the things that interest you. But saying that there have been a few discussions between some long term members and they usually end up acrimoniously getting bogged down with semantics, so it's not always new members that spoil threads.

It seems directly it's about what gets reported. But you, and particularly gregorio, may also be direct in which it's also about interaction. As much as gregorio likes to claim how big of an audio engineer he is, I then don't understand why he seems to live off of belittling audiophiles who post here. And that seems to be the usual interaction in this subforum these days.
