I know the P3 is the flagship model, but I am wondering if the SQ is actually noticeably different between these players. They both are new (Q2 had a later release date actually) and use DNSe 3.0.

Has anyone heard both?

I've only owned the P3, and IMO it's one of the better-sounding players out there for the money. Very well-balanced, with a hint of musical warmness, and very crisp, clean output. Definitely much more powerful than, say, an iPod.

Well, I just bought a 8GB Q2 to find out for myself. I have owned the P3, and K3, so I will post my thoughts soon.

Samsung claims the Q2 can get up to 50 hours of audio playback, but some sites' reviews claim they got less than 10.... Really weird....

YP-P3 is better for video and extra function but for audio Q2(also know in Korea as Diamond Sound) is better than P3

a little comparative by official Samsung tech specs

Audio Enhancement
YP-P3=Dnse 3.0
YP-Q2=Dnse 3.0
...The same

Signal To Noise Ratio
YP-P3=89db
YP-Q2=90db

Q2 Wins

Output Frequency Range
YP-P3= from 20Hz to 20KHz
YP-Q2= from 40Hz to 20KHz

Q2 Wins

Signal To Noise Ratio in FM Radio
YP-P3=45db
YP-Q2=55db

Q2 Wins

So for the audio Q2 Wins

I've owned both, and they seemed quite equal in SQ to me. I have no graphs to support my claim, this IMO only.

The only reason I'd say to avoid the Q2 is the way the library is managed,... try to scroll through 3000 or more songs 1 at a time - a real PITA.

Otherwise, decide if audio is the priority (Q2) or if you want video included into the mix (plus easier file selection - P3).

I'd recommend the P3 just for the easy browsing alone,..... YMMV.

i like the sound of my p3. It is def among the best i have heard so far. (D2, S9, S639 asf.). what i don't like, however, is the shoddy, almost disgusting, ui. slow, unresponsive, plus it's hardly legible in sunlight. It really keeps me from using it more. I had an ipod touch, but sold it due to sq and i just got another one. the ui is great, there's wifi and games. if only the sq could keep up.

probably ot, but do consider the quality of the ui of a your next player. sq is not enough to steer me towards the p3.

Samsung is actually really good about issuing firmware updates.  I noticed some good changes after the ones I installed when I had a p3, such as smoother scrolling, faster menu changes, etc.

I do agree that it could be a bit more fluid though.  Compared to the sony x or touch it's a bit laggy and the scrolling is not as kinetic.    The UI would not be a turnoff for me and it is probably my 2nd choice after the sony x.
