my cd1700 headphones need a better source. my stop-gap solution is an old hybrid cd/laserdisc player, which vastly improved the sound over the d777-cha47-cd1700. gone is the thick, crowded sound, and now the cd1700 just sound airier and smoother. i want to "make the pie higher" with sacd now.

the sony ce775 sacd changer looks good, but i understand the single disc version, the sony xe670 can be had for less. besides, i like the looks of the xe670 better.

1) is the xe670 the single disc version of the ce775?

2) where in the usa can i get the xe670 for a decent price? i see musician's friend has the ce775 for under $200 shipped.

3) is there a better price out there for the ce775?

thanks.

The 775 is in most Sony Stores in Vancouver, BC (Canada) for $250 in Canadian dollars, which is equal to about $160 US. But then you would probably have to pay to bring it back over the border to Seattle.

The SCD-CE775 is getting really hard to find. I looked all over online and Musician's Friend was definitely the lowest price. Most other places that list it don't even have it in stock -- I ordered it twice elsewhere before I got it from MF.

I've paid $120.00 for my CE-775 from Circuit City. Show floor model and they couldn't find manual, remote and interconnects. Worked for me.

wow, $120? unfortunately it looks like they're out of stock.

--edit--

okay, i took the plunge and ordered the ce775 from mf. total with shipping & tax was $199, with a free santana "abraxas" sacd thrown in. this sacdp will be the new source for my bedroom system. hopefully they will arrive this week!

I paid way more than that for mine before they lowered the price.

Not as much as my vinyl, but I don't regret my purchase. It's certainly much better than anything else I've ever had for redbook playback and SACD are yet on another level.

How does the CE775 compare to the NS500V combo SACD/DVD/MP3?
