well I have the Xb700 and I NEED MOAR SUB BASSSSS, so I'm going with the 1000's soon and ofc I have an amp for them. I have a cMoy which has really nice Detail so I'm hoping the 1000's will play with that detail more, my only issue with the 700 is THERE IS NO MID BASS, does the 1000 have better mid bass :x
 
And on another note </3 D7000 DISCONTINUED e.e I wanted to get a PAIR!

I have had a pair of xb700's for around a year and a half. I've recently started looking into getting an amp to try and make them sound better (I'm new) when I read that they don't require an amp, which is odd because I don't particularly find the bass in the xb700s to be anything remarkable. I listen to exclusively bass heavy electronic music, and have read around the forums that the xb500s are actually better in terms of mid-bass. is the difference big enough for a basshead to switch from the xb700s to the xb500s?

Why don't you just EQ the bass up instead of changing decend phones into worse? 700's are physically capable of the same bass and more.

No they aren't, I've tested this, XB700 will never output such a midbass punch with that big impact like XB500 do, I even tested using 3 EQs at the same time with XB700 using kX Audio drivers which have the best working 10-band EQ I've ever used by far (much better than something on X-Fi Titanium HD) and the bass always remain much more softer in the impact for XB700 no matter how bassy you EQ it to be.

Ok I give up. It's probably easier to achieve that ULTIMATE (MID)BASSHEAD

goal with XB500 especially without careful EQing. And at those volumes you'll probably also save your hearing from the non-existent mids and highs. 

 
And yes I do have XB500/700 here on my desk with 2 watts of power. My ears are already ringing.

Congrats lol, I still like my Xb700s for Dub Step as I enjoy the soft bass over the punchier, although I'm enjoying Dub Step with Dt 880s [WHAT] although the Dt 880s can't do Drum and Bass any better than the Xb 700s, so alas the dt 990s will be purchased
 
back on topic me gusta Xb1000 <3, I'm hoping that it will have heavier mid bass than the Xb700, and ofc I don't expect impact just that nice HEAVY soft bass that I enjoy! <3 just need $500 for Xb1000 Dt 990 lol then I can retire my Xb700s!

i love my xb1000s and xb500s... awesome bass..
 
i have to say that many people think that xb1000s lack the punch of the upper bass but i disagree... they require a lot of amping and eq, which will make them match the likes of xb500 or pro900s in the bass punch... and they have unmatchable power in the mid and lower bass region... when they go low, they just rattle my brain and literally almost tear my eardrum with huge vibrations.. on the other hand the upper punch of xb500s puts a smile on my face(i don't believe that the ultrasone pro900s can match xb500's bass thunder)

Yea the Pro 900 can match it's thunder if u have the right ears, and u buy a working can... LAWL
 
But yea man the Xb1000 sounds NICE, man I need $280 fast lol happy to hear the 1000 has good sub abd decent mids [the 700 lacks mids] but for mid R@PE I want the dt 990! 
 
Yea there should be a few left on the market in 2 or so months! Amazon has like 20 under $300 Ebay as maybe 10 maybe 50 under $300 so I'm good *phew*

Just bought XB500, practically no burn-in so far, so it can get only better 

 
In comparison to S600s (both used with EQ [the magical friend of your wallet 

], to make them sound as good as it gets)
 
- XB500 feels way more solid and pleasant to touch, no crackling noises, it could maybe even compete with DT770 (which I sold not so long ago) it's not AS sturdy, but it's definitely smoother with no harsh clicks when twisting it.
- A tiny bit (only) more bass on XB (tried cranking it to the limits), this confirms my statements about ridiculous sub-bass potential of S600s
- Soundstage definitely better on Sonys 
- Properly  EQed XB500 has more natural mids than JVCs, better mid-bass response also helps to avoid this funny highs bleeding to mids, when,  let me call it, a "tap-kick", calls for mids.
 
 
Overall, with tweaked EQ, this is a really nice HP with decent SQ and amazing bass response, although it's not very portable, especially compared to JVCs, but will definitely keep them for using indoors or some car/bus trips. 
 
BTW, I have a Black Noire version made in 06/2012, I guess it's in the group of the last made XB500s, what's more, it was the last one in the store! I bought them for ~65$ (converted from LT) and I thought I'am overpaying slightly, but now I see the prices on amazon raised to a minimum of $70, so I'am glad I bought em, furthermore, they are definitely worth every penny I paid.

I do like my XB500 very much I don't use these as often when at home because of the better options in my room but when I go out on a personal/business trip, I always get reminded of how much I like these. Despite all the great headphones I've heard, these always give me a smile when I just want to listen to some EDM and get that bass to put me in the mood. These just bring such a fun style to the sound that even with the cons, they make an amazing budget oriented addition.

what get's on my nerve is that I can't adjust bass for all recordings, I end up constantly re-adjusting it, lol.
Some tracks offer this nice vubrating background bass, while other are muddy all over the place and bass is muddy hum.
But it's the same with my S600

1. Can I cover the 'openings' on the headphones with electrical tape to prevent sound leakage?
2. Do these have better, same, or worse sound clarity and seperation than the Crossfade LPs?
3. Do these have even more bass than the Crossfade LPs?
4. Is the headband really comfortable also? I need some clarification on that...
5. Overall, would these beat the Crossfade LPs?
6. Do these have alot of sub-bass?
7. Do these have alot of mid-bass?
8. Are the synth-type sounds on EDM clear?
 
If you can answer ASAP, that would be very helpful.

1. You can, but that is the "port" so your bass will roll off earlier
2. Better but still muddy.
3. Yes
4. The headband is plastic with a cheap piece of foam over it, However the cans are damn light and im picky.
5. Yes
6. Yes
7. Yes (They have a big midbass hump with a SLIGHT sub bass rolloff.) XB700s are the king of sub bass if you like that (I like sub bass, but less punch)
8. If you have the LPs the XB500s are less muddy. However the XB700s are considerably cleaned up compared to the XB500.

Sidenote: I've had the XB500, XB700 and XB1000, The XB500 gives you the most bass, and the least fatigue. XB700 gives you the most sub bass, but less punch and more treble. The XB1000 has considerably less bass than the 500 and 700. The XB1000s were also peaky in areas the ear is sensitive, pass on the XB1000s.
