SONY WH1000XM3 - better than QC35 in noise cancelling?

I would love to learn if 3rd party ear pads could lower the "fat" bass levels. Just a bit too much bass and sub bass for my taste. Its a bit too "pillow-y".

I really like real leather touch of my P7W and I would love to try these on XM3's which I ordered. I've just had a look Dekoni sheepskin listings on Amazon, but I saw a few different types. Could you please share the link the one that you are using?

I used the athm's as the internal is a bit bigger for my ears, but the Sony ones are more of a profiled fit. The brainwavz sheepskin for the Sony's and Athm's are another option if you want to do it a bit cheaper ( pretty good considering they are under half the price of the Dekoni ). Once you remove the pads you'll either have to remove the black pad otherwise you'll have to layers as the pads come with driver guards or cut out the one on the new pads. I just took off the ones on the headphones they just peel off as they have a small piece of double sided tape on them and underneath there is a piece of damping foam covering the driver and filling the side gaps in the cup, I'm not too keen on this and will be trying out other methods of damping that doesn't cover the driver front as much and you'll have to make a few cuts in the new pads surround as the fitting ring has clips and guiding nubs that fit into the cup to hold it all together. Never been a lover of wireless headphones but I need a pair for work so after a bit of research the M3's sounded just the ticket for me, but I'm sure I can mod them to extract that bit more.

I think that's down to a wedge of damping foam over the driver which I found odd, I'll be messing with them later see I that flabby bass can be tamed

Hello,

i use my WH1000XM3 with my Smartphone on Android 8.0 so i have LDAC connection.
I can use Foobar Equalizer to change the sound signature and the heaphone app still shows LDAC connection.

:)

This is great, thanks for sharing. If you open them up again, would love to see a photo or two of how the Dekoni pads fit into place (they look super comfy, and it sounds like they make a good sonic difference right away).

They just fit like the stock pads do, the holding ring goes inside the back of the pad and the small holes for the nubs and slits for the hooks push through, I'll be opening them up again to mod the bass with different damping so I'll probably be taking photos of that anyway.

Sounds bit like a few too many dbs of 80hz roughly. I am not certain a small piece of foam could fix that (but I am new to headphone hacks)

No I mean there is a piece of foam that Sony have put inside not me, I'll be taking that out later and modding them with some stuff I used on a pair of Sony Z7's and some AM2's to sort out that flabby bass. It's Sony's typical sound signature even my Z1R's had it until I modded them, don't get me wrong I like the Sony signature just that at times on certain pieces of music that extra deep bass can be a bit too much, it just needs reigning in a touch.

Asking for a little help. I've been out of the portable audio game for a little bit and looking to get back in. I recently purchased the Sony NW-A45 and am looking for some headphones. In the past I've really enjoyed the Sony MDR-1A; I've narrowed my choices to the MDR-1AM2 and the WH-1000XM3. Based on sound alone how do these two headphones compare? Thanks.

I have the MDR-1A also right now, I can say the XM3 (powered on) sounds better than the MDR1A , granted that the 1A is like 4 years old, it's more likely the 1AM2 and the XM3 has improved on the design, but I haven't heard the 1AM2

Tried with the foam out, still has nice bass but a hint less low end muddiness, it's surprising what a bit of foam will do. Will keep it around the driver as damping but cut out the middle bit.

Ha!

I have high frequency hearing loss so removing the central foam might boost the HF for me.
