Recently unpacked my orig. 1980/81 bought system and adding components recently. Turntable has been used off an on very little since 85 but never unused more than 5 years. Loving my recent acquired dbx orig. vintage equipment before dbx sold to new owners. Kept my orig. collection of records in excellent condition all these years have over 200 including 20 recently acquired dbx discs which are drop dead awesome to listen too. Dynamic range and sound better than CD's.

1. My question is what is correct stylus force setting on the PS-X600 for the Dynavector Ruby moving coil cartridge? It has been set on 1.8 which seems HEAVY to me and over all these years may have accidentally moved. Currently trying 1.25. Dont know if there even in business anymore but GOLDEN GRAMEPHONE in Akron Ohio set up and helped me choose system back in 80/81. Loved working with two owners.

2. Also if anyone can tell me how rare and what quality the 1980/81 released Dynavector Ruby moving coil cartridge is considered even today? Any idea of value also though I understand it is what someone is willing to pay. I spent $10,000 in 80/81 on my complete system including a ADS digital time delay which was state of the art then. Sadly much of the system is no longer with me and only the Maggies ( early 70's) survived time (new drivers by factory since) with Haflers 200 and 500 /Sony PS-X600.

3. Turntable works flawlessly but never been serviced. Should I take it in to have oil on motor/spindle or other parts ?

Thanks for help all Have included some pictures for the walk down memory lane.

The outer Dynavector shell has some spotting but connectors look amazingly free of any corrosion.

I had the PS-X600 for a while but ended up swopping it out for a PS-FL77 which is a P-Mount linear tracking model Biotracer. They don't hold their 2nd hand value very well at all since being so complex they are almost impossible to fix if anything goes wrong. I think I sold mine for around 80 Euros.
That said they are very well made indeed and don't go wrong so often so if yours in good condition I'd just enjoy it while you can as there is unlikely to be a turntable of this level of engineering complexity ever made again.

I also have a Karat, a 23R which needs retipping as it happens so I'm currently reduced to a 20X which is good but not quite the same. The choice is either to contact Dynavector

Dynavector 17D3

who are still making Karats just not the ruby ones currently, or else go for a sympathetic restoration from a specialist like The Soundsmith who is something of an expert on ruby cantilevers from building them for Bang and Olufsen.

There is a complete listing of the Dynavectors here with appropriate playing force details.
