SONY NW-ZX500

I listen to local lossy music only, and I bought ZX507 for 4 reasons.
1. My new smartphone doesn't support SD card, so I needed a DAP.
2. It had to be Android, because I wanted to sync the playcount between the DAP and MusicBee on my PC.
3. I wanted to have balanced output. 2.5mm was okay but I preferred 4.4mm.
4. I wanted to give DSEE-HX a try.
That narrowed down to ZX507.
IMO ZX507's battery life is acceptable considering its tiny 1,500mAh battery, but I do hope future products would have at least 3,000mAh.

That's all valid reasons, for me wanting a device with the USB-C port on upper left side pretty much narrowed the choice down to the ZX-500 series....

This writer previously review the zx507 back in 2019. He just updated his impressions in this june 2020 write up:

"Streaming WALKMAN" finally got serious!
This time, I compared the NW-ZX507 with Sony's high-resolution compatible ear monitor "IER-Z1R".

↑I tried listening with Sony's high resolution earphone "IER-Z1R"

The timbre of the piano has increased, and the band's performance has a clear view and three-dimensional effect. You can feel the richness of high-resolution information. The texture of the vocal voice will be even more detailed. The bass and drums bass also have a strong response to the bottom.

I wonder

if I am happy with the operation of my 507 and Amazon Music HD.

if it’s worth doing all the tweaks / disconnecting from google and turning my back on future updates?

or perhaps just doing the other tweaks lower down?
I had some concerns about that, but it was pretty easy to login to Google when I wanted to get the last update.
It was pretty easy and quick to do.

Ha! Don’t know if it’s been mentioned in this thread yet but as well as hi res Android Limitation bypass the Sony 507 next track / last track stop / play buttons now all work with Amazon Music.

Great!

I am curious, do all owners currently posting on the 507 have the Japanese version ? I need to replace my pioneer xdp 100r and would like to purchase from my local UK Sony centre. The additional customs costs of purchasing the non euro version and warranty return logistics make me nervous of buying abroad . Is the U.K. spec so bad? And would it be a good pairing for my campfire Andros ?

You might end up with the volume flat out all the time on your iems and also find that other headphones are too quiet and underpowered. (A drag for the times you might want to use another set)

so the logic is - be covered for all types of headphones / iems & get the Japanese version.

PITA with post delay & customs. But just deal with it?

I got mine 2nd hand.

I had the UK version and sent it back.(twice!)
