Reporting back, so after resetting the unit, fully charged to 100%, played the unit and its been 2 hours 10 minutes. And happy to report the battery only dropped to 97%!

Seems rebuilding the library might be the solution, which i had to do too after the reset.. And disabling batt care for 100% charge also might be the solution..

Anyhow..

Will update if there are any changes moving forward.

May i know the estimate hours for the 3 scenarios on your case. And with DSP settings or direct mode? I might have to make a case scenario to the Sony guys in the Sony centre, just in case they ask.
Direct mode, local files only. Didn't do a proper scientific benchmark but
1.65w Charger: ~20 hrs.
2.No Name charger: ~30hrs.
3.USB: 30+ hrs.

Ok, i admit i did a funny method of charging. I have a Topping P50 linear power supply with 2 usb ports rated at 5v 1 amp. I have been charging with it for months, maybe M2 owners can avoid using my method for the time being until my case is rectified.

Right now, im a good boy, just using a white Sony charger rated at 5v 1.5 amp. :D

Mine is getting worse after using 6 months, about 10 % per hour, im trying few times battery full power cycle by draining it 0 % (total flat, can't even boot) and charge to 100 %. Will monitor it, if do not improve, will send in Sony service centre next few weeks. Btw, im playing music with only DSEE on, something definitely not right.
DSEE HX consumes a lot of power. It is an upscale algorithms and it depends on the factors of it interpolations, it could be more consuming with firmware or less

yeah, that's the main reasons i have been holding on this unit for months, i was thinking maybe aac lower res file needs more DSEE power to upscale, hence increasing the power usage. I will try the Direct mode method on the next full charge.

Btw, DSEE Ultimate really upscales aac files like champ, it was as close as a FLAC file.

I did an update database and hour ago, looks better, 5% per hour now, i will keep monitoring. Will report back the next full charge using Direct mode.

One question, i rarely do use this update database function. Maybe less than 7 times for 6 months. How often do i need to update the database?

When you add/remove music I'd have thought. Think I've only done it twice.

the database update function is automatically done if you disconnected your Walkman from your pc/mac.

The only time where you need to perform a manual database update is when you downloaded a music file directly from the chrome browser or your NAS file app to your Walkman and want to listen on the Walkman music app.

According to Sony, it is a must to use their supplied cable:

Notes on charging the battery

  • Always use the supplied USB Type-C cable.

Hmm, 2 hrs have passed, 5 % per hour, think i can live with that with DSEE on. Only 2 things i did, i update the database and turn off battery manager. O, what a relief, this unit is more than 1.4k hours used, sounds very good. I really dun want to burn-in another unit, lol.

Sorry all. for reading my miserable posts. :smirk:

i have a usb power meter and sony’s usb c cable draws the exact same power as the ones from anker, aukey, and apple (came from ipad pro) using the various usb-c chargers i have from anker, aukey, old sony xperia and apple’s dual usb-c charger.
