Interesting... I'm on Windows 10. I wonder if I need to download the drivers for USB DAC first?
I have not tried this function on 1AM2, but I think it is not necessary to download driver for it

You're right..it was the USB cable I was using. Somehow didn't recognize data transfer. All's good now. 👍

I'm a bit confused about the MQA unfolding. So from what I understand the full unfold only works with their built in walkman music app? Meaning you can only use your own MQA files? Using UAPP with tidal I'm only getting the first unfold. And playing from Tidal directly doesn't seem to be doing any unfolding.

Hmm, I am using Tidal files for walkman app and Apple Music for streaming, I have not tested the Tidal app on 1A, maybe someone know

Maybe so, but I have small ears and not paying over £1K used for a bad fit and fragile cable connection. The M9's will have to do 🙂

Not a fan of the 1ZR style either.
Those are exactly the misconceptions that kept the Z1R out of my small ears for 4 years. Then I did something radical...I tried them myself. 😮

Long story short, I sold everything else, and other than the IEMs I get in for review, I'm not interested in another IEM until and when Sony sees it fit to release a Z1R successor.

My both astell and kern as well as sony dap clicks when booting up or plugging in earphones. It’s normal.

Most likely you are referring to relay clicks.

Did you also have the M9's at any point?

I see more negative reviews/feedback of the Z1R than M9.

As promised, How to buy from e-earphone:

Disclaimer: do this it your own risk, this is just how it worked for me and just trying to help others out. I take no responsibility for others purchasing this way. Google or firefox translation is your friend.

Apologies if this is a little cumbersome, I'm doing this on my phone as not got access to a laptop currently.

1) Create an account at a proxy/forwarding service

Can be Tenso.com etc. Can also use buyee which allows you to buy directly from a website but this won't get you the 10% discount at e-earphone.

https://www.tenso.com/jp/login

You'll need to verify your account and also verify your payment method also.

2) Register an account at e-earphone and use the registered Forwarder address (Tenso provided) with your unique customer number (important) and Tenso local phone number.

Depending on the site purchasing from Tenso have a page to show what address formats to use:

https://www.tenso.com/jp/my_page/address

3) Order your item(s)

Based on my experience e-earphone will pack and deliver to Tenso next day or within 48 hours.

4) Package arrives at forwarding service (Tenso)

You need to give Tenso 2 days to register your parcel on their system. You can check the status of your package at MyPage:

Tenso will then weigh and itemise the order and ask if you want consolidation (hold the item until other items are delivered to be consolidated into one package for international delivery). You then chose what carrier method to use i.e. EMS, DHL etc. I chose EMS as has 2 day int delivery and insurance. Package will then be send within 24 hours from my experience.

5) Package sent to customer

2 or 3 days to UK and then customs inspection. Import charge and VAT return will be calculated based on value of items (invoice attached to packaging). Import duty is £12 for items under £900 and £24 over £900.

6) Pay Import fees (UK only)

A letter will be sent to you stating what you need to pay. A 13 digit number can be used to pay the fees online (parcelforce.com)

EMS Japan post tracking:

Parcelforce tracking:

Package will be moved onwards to your local depot and held until you pay the customs fees. Once in the UK instead of using EMS tracking you can plug in your tracking number into parcelforce.com for tracking.

A useful diagram:

7) Receipt of item

For me took about 12 or 13 days from the day of ordering from e-earphone to receiving the NW-WM1AM2, but as I was away for work I proactively sought the 13 digit customs number (by phoning up parcelforce) and pay online so I could receive the item before I went on holiday. I recieved the parcelforce customs letter the day after I received the item because of this.

Happy buying!

No, but from everything I've read about the M9, you can't really compare it with the Z1R. They're two different animals. @Damz87 may be able to shed more light on the differences, but M9 was designed as a stage monitor, and Z1R as an audiophile/enthusiast IEM.

I had both and it's exactly what @gLer said : M9 are monitor IEM, so they are tuned to be precise, they are "flat", the music is not "coloured". I found the M9 not bad, but neither very good in anything, there were just annoying compared to the Z1R. Didn't regret selling the M9 for a second but really regretted selling the Z1R.

Can you see the total downloaded files through the Walkman app?
Or do you have to rip the tidal mqa files yourself ?

I rip the tidal mqa files by myself and add it to walkman storage
