SONY NW-WM1Z M2 / WM1A M2

Looking forward to your observation psikey if it is not terribly capped i might jump on board

I only have easy to drive SE846, K10U and FD7 (no actual Headphones) to try with, that's assuming it doesn't get delayed and comes back into stock at Amazon Japan sooner.

I have previously had Japanese and UK versions of A107 and ZX507 so know what I should be getting. As an example the easy to drive 8ohm SE846's only needed 50/120 balanced low gain on Japanese ZX507 but with UK I was at ~80/120 :scream: (no high gain option at all either).

I had a Japanese pre-order but foolishly cancelled as I wanted to see more feedback (no easy to return). They then went out of availability. At the lime it was over £150 cheaper than Amazon UK too with delivery & customs charges etc.!

Yeah, but you mentioned "not need mobile phone in BT mode", which implies that you would have to stream audio from the internet through your smartphone, and this is why I mentioned the Hotspot thing :D

I was referring to the M1 versions only being able to do Streamed music (on or offline) if fed over BT from your phone, no option at all otherwise and of course limited to LDAC Best, not 32/192 mode the M2's will support.

I don't think that there is any smartphone/device that could transmit LDAC 32/192kHz.

Think I'm losing you :relaxed:

Yep, that's my point. True streaming support from the Likes of AmazonHD can only been done on Sony Android devices, not Sony OS. If you have no interest in Streaming services I'd stick with M1's.

With my ZX507 set to High at 32/192 all the AmazonHD tracks showed as playing as the source bit-rate be it 44/24; 48/24; 88/24; 96/24 or 192/24 even though I suppose the Sony upscales lower than 192/24 to 192/32 in its output to the sockets? But then your not loosing resolution from source file.

On the ZX507 in 192/32 mode with AmazonHD offline and all wireless off, you'd get under 8hrs playback! If we can get 16hrs+ with an M2 that's much better and up to 40hrs in the Walkman Music app.

You are constantly battery watching with an A107 or ZX507. Live streaming over Wi-Fi you'd struggle to get 5hrs with a ZX507!

Oh, I re-read your post and I got what you wanted to say. LDAC best sounds really good, and most streaming services don't really go past 24/96. Amazon HD's actual sample rate to the DAC could be confirmed via ADB. I've read posts about it showing that it's streaming at a certain sample rate, while the actual sample rate was 48.

Internally, the S-Master knows about 16 or 32 bits, and audio at 24 bits gets played at 32 bits, probably just padding the 24 to 32, without adding anything.

I don't really think LDAC Best is doing 96/24 lossless, 48/24 most likely doable. Its still not on par with 88, 98, 192 over balanced wired if you're doing critical listening. Perfectly fine while out & about.

I still just use my Android phone LDAC best with Sony XM4 buds while out or with my BTR5/SE846 combo.

Thanks. Maybe they aren't putting info on the plastic part!

Wonder why Gold version doesn't have the plastic part on the back cover and why the A version does? Anybody know?
Quoting my own post earlier, does anyone know reason as it does make back of the A less attractive than that of the Z with the plastic insert part ?

After a 10 day stint at US customs, 1ZM2 arrived last night from Japan. The DAP is gorgeous, with substantial weight and amazing feel (naked). The Japan model does not come with the Sony case. Too soon to say much about sound, initial impressions are that soundstage and separation are phenomenal to start with but lows are a bit muddy. System wide EQ (including streaming apps) is a big plus for me already. I really hope that things will get better with the low end after 200 hours.

For the 1A, the cover with the walkman etching is metal, not plastic. It feels cold to the touch
I can't decipher the other part.. but it seems like leather

And I think that 1A looks slightly sleeker since it does not have 2 screws being visible,, but that's just me

will be looking at the Japanese version then, this EU volume capping is really gimping the players here not acceptable

I don't think there's any functional reason AFAIK, sony just trying to differentiate better the two with the more premium milled backing?

Edit: Interestingly these pics seem to indicate a "hole" or a pass through section of the aluminium pressed backing of the A1M2..

There’s isn’t any marking
The marking are beside the USB C port

I bought this from Sony Singapore
How to determine whether it’s Japanese spec or not

I thought everything will be the same?
The Japanese spec one is the sample unit u handled. The E region one which is the one we have, has all those ugly markings beside the USBC port.

BTW: Congrats for receiving your WM1AM2. Take good care of it and it will not take good care of your eardrums :)
