Sony MDR-Z1000 and Sony MDR-7520 - Essentially Identical?

Which one did you get? The 7520 or the Z1000? Or both? :)

I got the MDR 7520. Very pleased, as these are probably gonna be awesome even without an inline remote. Looks to be the best closed back for neutrality and power, before getting to megabucks. They were £400 in the UK before being discontinued.

Hi, just bought the 7520 and have the Z1000 as well. Beside the sonic differences that has already been explained very well I noticed a big difference in the pad diameter inside the headphones. I don’t now if only that thing can change the sound signature so much or not. Because looking at them they are in everything else identical.
As you see in the picture the inside of the Z1000 is really smaller but also the pad has different shape. Is it possibile that just the pad different inside size and shape makes the sound signature differences that we are talking about?

Second picture 7520 is above.
Third picture is 7520.
Fourth picture is Z1000.
