I need to get a new headset, mainly a low value headphone for sporting. Even though it's low value it still needs to have a bit of quality.

Currently have a AKG K391NC and Etymotic HF5 as IEM and also a MDR-1RBT for the cold days. I was suppose to get a XBA2 or XBA4 but both deals fell through (unfortunately) and i cannot find anything around the 30 pound mark that is close to that. Unfortunately the sony xba2 and xba4 deals fell through.

For me, The HF5 is really nice, but it lacks some low end impact. The AKG is more to my liking from a sound signature (for sporting), but the fit is horrible. The MDR-1RBT i just absolutely love (although i love my PFR-V1 is my all time favorite)

I've settled with either the MDR-EX650AP or the Xiaomi HD Pro. I know this is nowhere near high end as any of the IEM i mentioned earlier (either the one's i owned or the ones i wanted), but alas i need to have something cheap) I've always been fond of Sony, at the same time i do want to give the Xiaomi HD Pro a try, it's nearly the same price as the Sony.

Who can give me some recommendations? Is the MDR-EX650 going to be more to my liking, or does the Xiaomi HD Pro going to give me a better sound quality (with the 3 drivers)?

I haven't listened to either option, but I'd be leaning towards the Sony if forced to choose between those two. BAs typically aren't as durable as DDs and if you're going to be using them for sports/activity I'm guessing they're going to be chucked about.

I'm not sure if they would be available in your region or what they sell for now, but it might be worth trying to hunt down the Sony MDR-AS800AP. Waterproof, comfortable, durable, and they sound much better than you would expect from an earphone targeted at the athletics market.

I'm not to worried about durability. They are cheap anyway. Also the Sony is brass which will rust with salty water so there is upside and downside.

The as800p have winged tips which is mainly the reason why the Akg is not fitting me properly. So that's a no go for me.

This is an old thread but I'd like to provide photos of the item i just bought thru Amazon which should be a warning to anyone considering what is quite a popular item from a well known brand. Now i bought as "like new", but even so... it gives an opportunity to see how poor the 650s are build wise.

That doesn't look like a build quality issue tbh...

There are over a hundred poor reviews on Amazon.UK alone who have the same problem/complaint about the brass housing corroding and discolouring overtime, sometimes months. i'm aware this set will have been sitting on a shelf in a damp warehouse seeing as it is a USED-LIKE NEW pair (thus the more extreme end of the issue) but it does highlight the problem that many are having so it I'd say it is a build issue. Many are heralding the sound but not the build.

I just bought the Sony MDR-EX650 and I like them, they have lots of bass but I got use to it in just one day and you can diminish it with equalization for ex., the build is nice, really like these headphones, voices sound very good, they are super lightweight.
