The e888s are such nice earbuds for Jazz or Classic Music! The buds are big! It's lucky because my ears are big enough to put on these phones!

Do the E484s really exist?

I bought a pair of Sony MDR-E888's from Ownta.com for $70.  Received them today and two things in particular troubled me.  First, the box says: "sony 2006 Made in China."  Second, the foam earpad covers are already on the earpieces, which leads me to believe these had been used and repacked.
Are the E888's made in China legitimately?
Thanks!

What do you think? Any improper grammer, spelling, or punctuation in the packaging and labeling screams "NON-GENUINE" to me. Also, I've read that Ownta is not a reputable site for electronics.

If you already have the PK3, E888 would probably be side stepping instead a upgrade.

Huh? Many claim the Sennheiser MX580 is better than the PK3. I have the MX580 and E888. The E888 is better than the MX580, so it should be much better than the PK3. The E888 has an incredible amount of detail and great highs. I wonder if the E888 is better than the MX880 or the PK1. I haven't heard any of the Yuins or the MX880. I do like the MX580 very much, but not as much as the E888.

I do own MX580 (and MX581), E888 and PK3 (plus a few more). E888 is the most colored of the all of them - great fun to listen, not nearly as good as others.

I seem to recall my Sony earbuds coming with the earpads on. I think it is Sennheiser that packages the earbuds with the earpads not on the earphone. Some others posted that their Sony E888 was made in Thailand. At some point Sony might have switched production to China, or perhaps made them in both places?

E888 was made in Japan at first back in the 90's, then production moved to Philippine, followed by Thailand at 2000's (till now). Some were made in China (or maybe just packed locally), but many stock in China are actually fake. E888 has been discontinued in most places except for S.E.A. and China where sale are still strong. There were story about the earliest Japanese E888 being the best sounding, but I have never listened to one to confirm it.

Hi--
I have two pairs bought from Ownta.com (listed as "Top Seller" on Chinese eBay).  I haven't opened them because I want to try the new Audio Technica ATH-CM707 instead (can't resist anything new).  My only concern is that the boxes for these say "Made in China," and I thought they were made in Thailand.  Sony has factories all over, but I am very scrupulous when selling Sony or Sennheiser etc. (I'm not a business, headphones are my hobby).  If you're interested, please get back to me.

Thanks.

I see used ones occasionally on Ebay. They sell for around $200-280. Sounds like plenty for a used earphone.

Mine still sound good and were made in Japan.  The cord however, is going to ****.  Did the remove pointless cover mod, or whatever it is called for more bass.  I think I like the Bose in ear slightly better, but the E888s always stay in my ear during heavy activity/sweating.
