Signals "not available" as far as I can see. Thanks for the suggestion, anyway. Not that I'm surprised - pads for Sony headphones have always been a catastrophy. Sennheisers are available but expensive (40-60 euro for the HD600 et al!). AKG and Beyer are better and reasonaby priced, something to think about for everyday users.

Now what about those U70s, by the way?

Still looking for a pair. They go for way too much lately, considering they apparently have very little potential. $60ish would be the sweet spot. If you were looking at my profile, I don't have a lot of the stuff listed. I have most of it as mental notes of what I need to save up for... If I put them in a Word document, I'd eventually forget about it.

i just got a cd850 myself. love the sound, very much like its big brother, the cd1000. I also need new pads. these things are huge, I have nothing that will fit

The CD850 has a 50 mm driver, larger than the 40 mm CD750, so there's probably a difference in sound.

In general I find that the CD750, introduced in 1991, sticks to the old Sony Sound Signature Formula: elevated bass, a dip in upper bass/lower midrange and a treble peak. Sometimes entertaining but hardly neutral.

The CD3000 pads would maybe fit as well, but I don't think it's worth the trouble and expense.

Did a little damping with bitumen and bluetak.

for sake of comparison- the cd850 is very bright, detailed, huge stage. a little bass light, but hits very low bass notes. very similar to a cd2000 i once had

this guy used to sell cheapish cd3k compatible earpads, they fit the whole 750/850/950/1K serie just as well: http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=keny-lin&ftab=AllFeedback

the CD750 is 50mm just like its bigger brothers IIRC, it's just that it lacks any kind of biocellulose, the CD850 has a bit of it in the center and the 1K/3K diaphragms are only made it. Never seen a 950 so can't tell.

Great - I'll shoot him a PM right away.

That the CD850 has a partial bio-cellulose membrane seems unlikely. Those membranes' base was microfibre/vectran on which biocellulose was growing. To join this material with PET would complicate the process, and for what reason? If anyone has a period Sony brochure it would probably provide the answer.

I'll repeat myself in this thread as well. Found the pads here:

Last year he was selling them for $14.99 a pair shipped, that's what inflation does to ya I guess...and he's got no competition, so he owns the market.

Honestly, they're made of a thick pleather and a very stiff foam that really don't warrant the 20 bucks...I'd move the drivers into a Takstar TS-670/671 shell.

IIRC, I posted pics of the CD750/850/1K drivers in a MDR-CD770 thread from Graphicism...there's the same difference between the CD770/1700 drivers.
