New Head-Fier
Hello,
So recently, I got the chance to demo the Sony IER-Z1Rs. Shockingly, they actually fit my ear canals! As expected, the sound quality was out of this world. Having said that, there was one thing that bugged me about the overall sound signature: the mid-range. And not in the way you may think.
Other reviews have noted that the mids are a little bit thin sounding on the Z1Rs, but I had a slightly different experience with my demo unit. To my ears, the mid-range didn't sound thin so much as it sounded almost... muffled? Muddy, perhaps? They clearly weren't recessed, but they sounded oddly veiled.
Speaking as a relatively new audiophile, am I missing something? Am I just getting my terms mixed up? Is "muddy", the same as "thin"? Or was there simply something wrong with my demo unit?
