Seriously why can't i find any comparisons with the Bose Soundtrue around ear. These 2 headphones are almost identical to each other and they both target the same audien. They are both lightweight, have a balanced sound, color choises, detachable cable, foldable(in another way), around ear...

And they cost exactly the same, really sony must have focused on the price of the Bose can's.

The mdr-100aap costs €180 and you can get a cashback of €20. The Bose can be found for around €160.

I have such a hard time choosing.

I would like to hear your opinions about the choice.

A few days ago, I stepped into a Bose store and listened to the SoundTrue II headphones.  As much as I hate to admit it, they actually were pretty good.

But IMHO, the 100AAP's are simply an altogether better sounding headphone.

As long as you don't push them too hard, they will give you a significant taste of what real high-end headphones are truly capable of.

And I can confirm that they are very transparent to the source.  They will continue to sound better as the resolution of the music gets better.  A lot of lesser headphones only go so far and then seem to hit a resolution 'ceiling', but I've yet to hit the 100AAP's ceiling!

For a $200 headphone, they're pretty amazing!

A lot of people say that the MDR-100AP sounds great as long as you don't push them too hard. What do you mean by that? Does it start distorting a lot when it's loud, or does its sound signature appeal more to lower-listening volumes (more emphasised bass and treble)?

Yes, it the bass starts to distort at very loud volumes.  However, we're also talking about the kind of volumes that really aren't safe and that the vast majority of folks should nto be listening at, anyway.  As in, volumes in excess of 95dB.

The 100AAP's only real weakness is when they are playing back music at high volumes that has a lot of low bass (below 40Hz).

The bass itself doesn't distort, but the bass can begin to audibly distort the mids and highs (IM distortion), which will continue to get worse the higher the volume is increased.

How much this will effect you will be completely dependent on how loud you like to listen to bass-heavy music, and it's a total non-issue with any other kind of music.

Nice.  It looks like Sony might actually be giving the 100AAP's some much deserved promo love!

I love the one of her with the Bordeaux Pink headphones even if they are on backwards :p

As others have said, these will sound better at low to moderate levels, you need better gear if you want to crank them and kill your hearing XD

Still enjoying them, upgraded my nwz-a15 to AK Jr and could hear an improvement, AK gives inky black silence in the backdrop and has a smoother more intimate sound.
Little bit of over hype on the 100aap , I still think Sony hit a home run but they are beaten by some more expensive cans I have tested against but for the price I think they are the best portable I have ever stuck on my head.(I prefer them to the pm3 but pm1 was better)
Ps who is Ashley Roberts????

Of course there are more expensive cans that sound better, and there may be similarly priced cans that sound better, too. But after trying hugely overhyped cans such as V-Moda M100 and KEF M500 ("the real deal", people? Seriously?), or even Sony's own MDR-1R, I think what I"vre read in this thread about the 100AAP is quite fair.

What's wrong with the KEFs?

How would you compare these to something like a Sennheiser Momentum?

I tried them on a store today and I can definitively say there was something about them that really caught my ears it was paired to a NWZ A25 but the music was not my cup of tea, with One Direction and Miley Cyrus filling the storage. Evwn then it felt like something. There was a nice synergy going on, like the sound was more open. They really put the Urbanite XL to shame, I didn't have the momentum on me to have a direct comparison

I really wished I could have try them on my own A17. I was about to pull the trigger but I left my card at home, so I now have more time to think about it.
