Wow, sounds complicated...

Redshifter,

Have you tried the EX70 ETYMOTICS mod yet?

I'm willing to bet it beats the socks off any other mod out there

it only sounds complicated because i tried to describe each step. it is actually pretty simple, and the results are worth it.

i did try the ex70 ety mod using that winamp plug in. maybe it was my soundcard but it did not click with me. i did however generate eqs for all my other cans!
biggrin.gif
what a great plug-in. i'm another eq fan. but when it comes to portability i prefer to physically eq the ex70.

ahh, yes the ex-70... what does the tape over the plastic hole do??? does it reduce treble? bass? ???? im curious.... i just did the foam mod, i like the bass acually, i think of it as "fun bass"

redshifter, (edit: where did Duncan come into this!

)

Remember, the ety mod only works with ex70s that haven't been physically modded...

a1leyez0nm3,
The ety mod is here

OK Redshifter,
I just completed the "silver mod" I am pretty pleased with the results. The highs have really been tamed. these headphones are much more listenable now.

Thanks for the tip!

chris,
if you mean the tape with the small hole in it over the tube mouth, it mainly reduces the treble. the tape over the 3 holes on the back reduce the bass. the small puncture on the tape on tape over the 3 holes does not increase the bass, but seems to add a little air to the sound, and smooth out the mid bass (t)hump.

2 channel,
i'm happy you tried my mod and liked it. i've been such a fan of the ex70 ergonomic nature i've been trying & trying to improve the sound. it's not perfect but the silver mod does help.

joe,
quit spamming your eq blasphemies here! this is a thread for those whole live in the real world!!

I must be going blind, because I can't see my name

BUT, I was the very original (back on HeadWize) person to do the EX70 mod for covering the 3 holes on the back... and Vertigo_1 'marketed' it

Yah, that's why I addressed 'Duncan' in that post before editing it!

lol Joe, you must be confusing me with someone else...

I've modded my E888s numerous times... my Grados once or twice, and my Senn HD580s once, but apart from butchering my first pair of EX70s (they are now just little balls that can slide into your ear canal
eek.gif
) The 'tape on the back' mod is the only one that i've done to the EX70s
smily_headphones1.gif

If i'm honest, I haven't listened to my EX70s since I got my MX400s, and I think that was about two months ago now...

Red, i'm half tempted to try your mod with my butchered pair, but... you mentioned a very specific kind of tape... can I ad-lib here?

Well, you were the one that said the ej1000 was a natural eq for the ex70, right?

duncan,
you may ad-lib your tape choice, sufficed to say you should be able to make very exact puncture holes in your tape. with cloth and paper tape you cannot control the size of the holes as well, which is key to this mod. i suppose any kind of adhesive backed foil (like a sticker) might work. give it a shot!
