Sony EX1000, is it really that awesome?

It's really good for the price if you can get them for like USD300.

Nice, neutral-brightish sound signature with excellent imaging, staging, detail and dynamics.

Like many mentioned before, it's not really appropriate for using on-the-go. It's great for home or a quiet environment. I also like the MDR7550 (very underrated imo) which I listen to very often (it's a bit warm and more vocals focused).

Just received my EX1000 just now, listening a few things stand out to me..

1. soundstage is very big!

2.instrument seperation is...wow

3.everything sounds soooo good, I thought my XBA30’s sounded amazing (they do) but I can imagine when I go back they are gonna sound closed, the ex1000 is so open and airy..

4.Im legit hearing details that I have never heard in my favorite songs..

5.treble can be a bit harsh sometimes but I can deal with it.

6.fit is certainly different but not “bad” or uncomfortable, just different.

Super impressed and for the $400 I paid..worth it in my mind!

For anyone that has heard the Shure SE535, how are those compared to the EX1000? Always been curious about the 535’s as well..

Personally not a big fan of Shure IEMs... with the exception of the KSE1500. (Haven’t tried the 1200 yet though)

They’re all very different, with EX1000 being brighter, SE535 being mid-centric, and 846 being bassier, but I’d take the EX1000 every single time.

The MDR7550 is extremely underrated as well. It’s basically a smoother EX1000 with less detail and imaging but is much more easy on the ears. I reach for it more often than my EX1000.

EX1000 vs MDR 7550 vs XBA Z5?

What do you guys think?

By the way, I have stopped using IEMs since the COVID-19 lockdown. I don't go outside anymore so there's no need for IEMs.... I use headphones at home.
I doubt I will use any IEMs till at least early next year.

I think in terms of absolute SQ I would take the EX1000 > Z5 > 7550/EX800ST
In terms of 'fun' factor I would rank them Z5 > 7550/800ST > EX1000

The EX1000 is definitely not for everyone, it has a brightish neutral sound with treble peaks that depending on sensitivity some people can tolerate and for others is a dealbreaker. None of the 3 have the ideal fit and all have poor isolation, resulting in a large 'open back' and airy sound. I believe in case for all 3 you basically can't use them outside due to wind noise. Still, for most people I'd recommend the likes of the Beyer Xelento over all 3 of the ones above as to me they take the best qualities of each earphone and put them together with a more comfortable fit and better isolation.

EQ/mod that Z5, it becomes extremely fun and technically impressive iEM. Shame mine one of my pair is dead.
