Does anybody know of any significant advantage of the D-NS920 over the D-NS900?

They seem to have pretty much identical specs. The only changes I can find are the jog dial and four line display on the D-NS900 is replaced with jog lever and five line display on the D-NS920, and the D-NS920 has up to 100 hours battery life versus up to 85 hours for the D-NS900.

I think the other major changes are the digital amplifier that is shipping with the x20 models and also the "Parametric Equalizer II" (according to amazon).

I used to own a D-ne900. it sounded pretty good except for the wall of background noise that was very audible in the background at low volumes. I hope the digital amplifier remedies this. It did in the sony minidisc players I've tried that had it vs the ones that did not.

I can't find any of the x20 models on Amazon - are you in the US (maybe we are looking at different sites based on geographical location)?

oh amazon isn't selling them yet. I found a page from them advertising the D-NE920 here but it is for their third party sellers, which I am not sure how reliable they are. Circuit City recently ran a clearance sale on their D-NE300 so I think the x20 models should be here soon, maybe by April as that's when their next generation minidisc models appear as well.

EDIT: I did a little googling and this site has it for sale and supposedly in stock but I have no idea how reliable it is. I am probably going to wait until amazon carries it. Looks like it will be in the $130-$150 range like the DNE900.

if its like the DNE900, the 920 will probably have an aluminum lid and a plastic back whereas the DNE10/20 models will have a completely metal shell (aluminum/magnesium covering).

If you're into Panasonic's consistently circle and flat style, wait for the 820 to come out. It's out in Japan already. However, I would'nt be suprised if they removed the line-out jack in the North American models again.

The NE20 and NE920 are both listed on eBay although I'm not sure they actually have 'em in stock. I was going to give a call tomorrow morning and ask.

Any idea whether the 920 will have line out and/or optical out in the U.S.? I'm a bit unclear about this. If it does, then it seems like the 920 would be the better choice: cheaper, not much larger, and you get the screen which makes managing MP3 discs a whole lot easier. On the other hand, if the 920 is missing line or optical out that the other has, I would feel differently.

Ordered the Sony D-NE920 from a reseller on Amazon for not quite $150 shipped. The Amazon reseller seemed more respectable than DataVision, who was cheaper, and etronics, who was not cheaper. I also ordered Sennheiser PX100 and Koss PortaPro (couldn't decide, so buy them both!).

My wife is going to love this...

Thanks to all who responded and I'll give an update on how I like the D-NE920 once I get it.

I ordered the D-NE920 from Datavision on 3/1 and got it yesterday 3/8 via UPS Ground. I am really enjoying the D-NE920, and looking forward to years of enjoyment from this great & compact unit. I give Datavision a thumbs up!
