Sony budget earphone discussion thread (MH750, MH755, MH1C, EX300, etc)

PM @Slater has stocks, lots of MH750s, hes also located in the US..

And regarding the Sony MDREX15AP & MDREX15AP which are fragile, parts are tightly glued together, thus difficult to mod, more expensive, lacking audio details of the lower priced MH750/755 series earphones, they pale in comparison and have been discussed within this thread many times and on the internet /reviews during the last few years.

Speaking of fakes: there seems to be an easy way to visually check whether you have an original or a fake. There is a purple border on the small label. It glitters a little. With the original headphones, it seems a little darker and really purple. A little lighter and less glitter when faked.

Interesting! I've never noticed that. I'll take a look tonight :)

Thanks, I've ordered the ones on Amazon ~15$, let's see when they arrive if they are real or not....
Yeah, let us know how it worked. If bad, please share some pics with us. By the way: its told that the risk of a fake is lower at the white model. Seems that those toasty chinese boys like to fake the black ones rather.

I'm back with the Amazon order. Happy to post more pictures to determine authenticity of this pair. Real or fake? It looks quite glittery and a deep purple color.
First look seems to be the original stuff 👍🏻 When you listen to it you can tell if real or not after 10 seconds. These fakes sound awful, the originals fantastic ⚖️

How do they sound?
The sound remarkable. Rich, punchy bass, clear crisp highs. The audio is far better than the Airpods Pro and Galaxy Buds Pro, which I also own.
My biggest annoyance is the microphone attached to the left ear, it adds too much weight. Even worse, the length of the right ear cable is stupid long. I can live with these work arounds. I also ran microphone quality tests, and the mic attached, even if annoying, is surprisngly very good. This would be excellent videoconference solution, altough for this purpose I much rather prefer over-ear headsets.

Without eq I might slightly prefer them over the Koss ksc75, albeit I'm more of a fan of over/on ears as opposed to IEMs in general. I'll test them with AutoEQ later.

Here's a picture of how stupidly long the right ear cable is. Note the the mic connection. It makes it incredibly annoying to wear.

As per eq settings: A low shelf at 130Hz with -8dB gain and a 7dB/Oct slope really makes these IEMs shine. I felt the AutoEQ eq settings ripped/sucked too much bass.

I tried AutoEq/results/oratory1990/harman_in-ear_2019v2/Sony MH750 at master · jaakkopasanen/AutoEq (github.com)
These EQ settings remove the bass bloat by brighten up the high frequencies. Without any EQ they have a rich bass and might sound a bit bloated with muted highs and mids, with the EQ is squashes a lot of the bass, which might be a little too much. I tend to prefer the sound with the EQ in general, but I might tone down the EQ in general.

Try oratory1990's EQ: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6ir75xxou7b6h8w/Sony MH750 (oratory1990 target).pdf?dl=0

Interesting

and

Are both oratory1990 measurements, yet they differ. Inspecting the raw measurements from both sources, they look quite similar although the ones in AutoEQ miss several peaks around 10kHz

AutoEQ uses oratory's FR of the device to generate an EQ, makes the device harman sounding. Oratory's EQ is his own manual EQ settings to get the device to harman. Both are dumb as amazing, but the manual method can account for phase cancelation, due to the physical properties of the device.
