I dunno...the emotion in that song seems too forced to me.

Three songs have brought me to the verge of tears.
Perfect Ending - Straylight Run
I got choked up when I first heard it. Not so much anymore.
The District Sleeps Alone Tonight - The Postal Service
Once, because it reminded me of a good friend who was leaving for college.
Poison Oak - Bright Eyes
The story in the opening is very emotional. Conor becomes overwrought once you get past the quiet parts, but it's still a great song.

Two instrumental works come to mind:

The "aria" from the Goldberg Variations, Glenn Gould's '85 recording ... sadder, wiser, more profound than the sprightly first version.

The Jade Princess from Tabula Rasa, Bela Fleck, V.M. Bhatt & Jie-Bing Chen.

Hear Hear! That aria is indeed a tear jerker, and I completely agree with you on the selection of the '85 recording. It seems the '50something recording gets better press, but I also prefer the "wiser", "more profound" '85 recording as well.

Right on both counts, I would say.

Ok you can't have a thread like this without any country songs (as much as some may want to

Kenny Chesney - The Good Stuff
- No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems (reminde me of my honeymoon)

The end of Fantasmic! at Disneyland (I have no freakin idea why

)

The track on Star Wars Episode III that is playing after Anakin was beat by Obiwan and Obiwan was telling Anakin that he loved him and he was like a brother to him... powerful music in that scene... (yes I am a Star Wars nerd and no I do not camp out or dress up

)

Soundtrack from "The Passion Of The Christ"

Don't laugh, but I get emotional while hearing Aerosmith - Back Back Train

It's a really well-written song and Joe Perry's voice is perfect for it. The background accompanying female vocals make it even better. I'm not a huge Aerosmith fan but that song is a real winner.

Also, the finale of Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon, "Eclipse", is a real tear-jerker for me because it's just the most brilliant ending ever thought of...

Danny Elfman - Ice Dance from Edward Scissorhands

Dream Theater: Scenes from a Memory - The Spirit Carries On

The album version gets me, but the live version from Scenes from New York on DVD is just killer. Just wow...

....but what about "Box of Rain" and "To Lay me Down"?

...but what about "He's Gone" and "We bid you Good night"?
