So Who's Getting an iPhone?
Jun 30, 2007 at 7:14 AM Post #151 of 257
Until the iPhone is available as a free upgrade (or as one of those buy one, get one free deals) at Verizon Wireless, I could care less. Even then....

It's kinda sad when the headlines of the news is about a cell phone.

Just checked the plans for ATT customers. So foe $20 more I could have an iPhone up and running. If I wasn't replacing my HT amp/processor.......

Here I am waiting outside the mall, in the parking garage. I got there around 3:30 and the line inside the mall was about 70 people. By the time 6:00 rolled around there were probably 70 people lined up inside the mall and another 250 in the parking structure.

The amazing thing was, there were crowds of people... just watching all the excitement. Talk about apple HYPE!! Man, when Steve Jobs has a FOTM... EVERYONE gets into it. I'm not an apple fan, to put it mildly, I was having a hard time understanding what all the hype is about.

I called my wife, using this phone. It was super easy to use. Although she was complaining about static and noise during our call.

Great pictures and a little story.
Can't wait for Apple to release the iPhone in Europe, so I can get a hold of one.

I will not be assimilated. Resistance is NOT futile!

...ain't nothin' that dang thing can do that I can't do better at home! Shucks; I leave home just to get AWAY from the doggone phone! And if I wanna go somewhere I call up Google Earth and some maps and print out just what I need and then when I'm driving I keep my eyes ON THE ROAD! And I haven't been lost since I was sixteen, so GPS....

Anyway; in my opinion that thing is just a little bitty box chocked absolutely full of great big features that don't do anything as well as a bunch of old style bigger boxes can do a whole lot better.

....it's just a whole big family of average tech looking for a tiny little motor home to live in!

But talk about BOSE marketing!!

The news this morning interviewed the first local fellow to get an iPhone. He said, "I have a long night of playing with this thing ahead of me." Cut back to the smirking news anchor and she says, "I wonder if he is still playing with it or got any sleep?"

Wow, thanks for that link. For those who don't have the patience to watch the video, they don't manage to scratch the screen even by forcefully dragging keys across it. Impressive.

Some of you were asking about sound quality playing MP3s... I don' think its possible to judge it, because it uses a proprietary headphone connector (someone please correct me).

Anyhoot... heres whats inside, no dedicated headphone output stage or OP amp.. looks bleek as far as SQ goes.

It doesn't have a proprietary headphone connector. Some headphones do not fit because it's inset a little deeply into the case, but that is easily correctable with an adapter.

Initial reports are that it uses a Wolfson DAC/amp, similar to the 5th generation iPod.

I had the day off yesterday and I'm a big Apple fans so I stood in line for 2 hours to play with the iPhone. They had LOTS at the mall in Thousand Oaks.Maybe 400 people in line buying 2, 4, six phones! But they never ran out. I couldn't shell out $600 for a phone, but I wanted to see it. No body wanted the four gig model. I don't kknow why Apple even bothered. Mainly techies and sharks (looking to resell them) in line. When I got to the point where I could buy one inside the store, I told them I was just there to look and I jumped out of line to play. It's definitely nice. The big screen is what makes it cool. That really makes the camera look great. I was ready to buy it for the camera alone, until I found out it was only 2 megapixels. I played with all the functions and the internet browser was very cool. But the store clerk said I was using it on wifi so it was fast, and admitted that the cell service kinda sucked for the internet. Huh?! I really liked the phone overall, but it didn't completely boggle my scrotum for some reason. Maybe I'm not that into phones, or maybe 2 macs a razr and Nintendo with a webbrowswer has dulled me to the excitement of technology a bit. Five years ago, yeah, I would have gone freaking mad for it. But these days, I felt, nice, but I've seen all this... I'm sure I'll get one down the road, probably pre-owned like the last three ipods I've bought.
